Alice in Wonderland: Norton Critical Edition

This has Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass and the Hunting of the Snark. It also has an introduction and a series of essays including those dealing with Carroll's early life and writing, the writing of the Alice books, Carroll's later life and essays in criticism.

I have never really care for analyses of Carroll's writing. For one thing the vary wildly in what assume his writings meant. These range from Fredudian interpretations (Alice's long neck represents a phallic symbol) through political interpretations through whether or not Carroll was a pedophile or just was showing normal Victorian attitudes towards young girl.

Rather than worrying about what this or that word or sentence might have meant I go along with the idea of just enjoying the stories.
