Alice in the Country of Hearts

A Japanese anime loosely based on Alice in Wonderland. There is an Alice and Alice's sister, but everyone else and everything else is different in appearance. The animals in Alice are people (sort of) in this story. There's numerous dream sequences, which fits the tone of the original story. There is, on the other hand, loads of violence, shooting, blood, etc, which is quite different from the original story. Alice jumps from place to place so there is not a direct-line of movement like in the original story.

Interesting looking place.

Alice and two other unidentified people being chased by a bunch of unidentified guys.

Another unidentified person. I'm pointing this out since not everyone is familiar with Alice in the Country of Hearts so the opening of this can be quite confusing.

Now we're in normal reality where Alice has been asleep.

Petals blown in the wind become cards.

Then we're back to Alice being chased.

Now it separates quite a bit from Alice in Wonderland as the guys chasing her have guns and threaten to kill her and the two guy with her have axes and chop up the guys chasing them.

Then end up in another place surrounded by the bad guys who now want to capture them when only a moment ago they wanted to kill them. Dream like inconsistency.

Then the two guys change. They have been calling her sister.

Then there's the falling sequence and a new guy appears, it seems.

Peter White (the White Rabbit).

He tells Alice he's in love with her and he kisses her.

He had also made her drink a potion. He gets what he deserves.

After some more confusing things we get this.

There are two types of people there.

The faceless.

Peter White's position.

Why would the knave of hearts be called Ace?

The March Hare.

Peter can appear as a real rabbit.

Nightmare.

Alice sees her sister there.

A take-off on the Tea Party.

The clock maker tells her she'll never belong there because she has a heart.

There are no longer any trials in Wonderland, and Peter explains why.

A reference is made to the inhabitants not having real hearts but having clocks instead.

There are talking flowers.

Alice has to make up her mind about returning home or staying in Wonderland.
