Return to Wonderland

Alice has grown up and is now in the Lucinda Academy. She spent a lot of time with doctors and psychiatrists who basically worked on convincing her that there was no such thing as Wonderland and that she imagined the entire episode.

She knows it was real, though. She falls through a mirror and ends up in Wonderland again although it has vastly changed. The Queen of Hearts has been taken hearts and, although it doesn't kill the people, it takes away their muchness. She ends up captured and taken to he Queen's dungeon. She finds out that it's not just mushrooms and cakes that can cause an odd reaction and this becomes vital to her attempt to stop the Queen and steal the book that the Queen uses to take the hearts.

If doing that wasn't complicated enough, though, she has to deal with the Cheshire Cat who can take human or cat form. As the story goes on he becomes more and more of a menace to her and there's a question of whether he will actually kill her to get what he wants.

This is the first part in a series.

The standard characters from the original story are there although most have been reduced to almost shadows of their former selves. The story (unlike many of its kind) does do pretty decent justice to the original story. There's nothing that stands out in a really bad way or in totally unrealistic way.
