The Mythic Bestiary

2008, 256 pages, oversized format.

Right off one of the great things about this book are the illustrations, the vast majority of which are done really, really well. It brings the creatures to life.

Each creature has the following: its appearance, size, lifespan, powers, habitat, a rather full description and often a small added box for more information. This last thing is the only part I don't like because the print is smaller which itself wouldn't be a major problem, but each box has in various shades of green which makes reading the smaller type almost impossible.

The book is divided into Beasts of the Air, Earth and Water.

Another thing that I like about the book is that the cryptids covered come from all over the world rather than just one country or one area. This makes the book more interesting and allows the reader to compare these creatures from various areas on the globe and think about how their existence came to be believed.

I've been getting various books of this sort and this is one of the best of them.
