+ The Dark Crystal

Age of Resistance Episode 1

The movie says there were 7 Gelfling clans. They it shows brief glances of the homes of the clans. It says the Skeksis built Aughra's orrery. It says Aughra put the Skeksis in charge of the Crystal of Truth. The film shows the Skeksis feeding off the energy of the dark crystal.

Before long there are two Gelfling and we see the female flying. The two dreamfast. It shows a Gelfling armed group that serve the Skeksis and protect the crystal. They have given the main Gelfling villages names.

I'm less than halfway through the first episode and I think I see another major problem. In the movie it seems to me that some kind of filter was used to make everything appear to be a little softer than it actually was. This series, though, doesn't have that. Thus it makes everything stand out very clearly and this makes, at least to me, the Gelfling and virtually everything else to look less 'real' than the characters in the original movie.

Another problem. When the Skeksis get to one village the Gelfling all cheer them. Why? The series has not established any reason for the Gelfling to cheer the Skeksis. Just what did the Skeksis do to win over the Gelfling?

The episode deasl with the Skeksis discovery of using 'essence' to power the crystal.

The episode also explains about the contamination of animals and plants via the crystal. The 'Great Tree; shows a female Gelfing what will happen in the future.

The Gelfling gives 'tithes' to the all-Maudra, the Gelfing leader (apparently.) The whole idea shows that there is some kind of religious/political/something concept established that requires each Gelfing to give something to the leader which, basically, is putting the regular Gelfling into a servant or slave status.

Then there's one of the most disgusting things I've seen in a movie for a very long time. One of the Skeksis has long lines of snot coming from its nose and it eats them. Just how childish did they think the audience was going to be? This type of thing is really totally unnecessary and doesn't really fit the series at all.

One young Gelfling woman has some sense of what is going on so she'll have to journey to the Al-Maudra to warn her of the threat to Thra. The girls' name is Deet.

The male Gelfling travelling with a female one in the tunnels under the Skeksis stronghold get separated and the girl, Mira, becomes the first Gelfling to have her essence taken by the Skeksis. The procedure is more primitive than in the movie plus she also disintegrates at the end of the process.

So, finally the first episode is done. No signs of the mystics. The Skeksis assume no one will believe the male Gelfling who saw what they were doing to Mira. But, if the Gelfling would go to talk to Aughra she might believe.

Very disappointing.
