Shinigami no Ballad, episode 1
This series is based on a manga that I have not read. Momo is a Grim Reaper, and Daniel is her assistant. In the manga, Daniel is a cat; in the series, he's a human. The drama is also only a half-hour long, rather than the normal hour length.
Opening of the first episode.
Daniel has been assigned to work for someone that seems difficult to get along with.
A normal-appearing Grim Reaper.
The person he's going to see seems to be working in a basement of sorts.
This is who he is going to be working with.
Reapee number 1.
Momo and Daniel are there, Daniel providing target data. The target will die in three days.
Daniel wants to go by the book, but Momo seems to write her own as she goes along.
Their mother is dead and their father is a drunk.
Daniel doesn't understand why Momo wants to find out about the boy that is to die.
His bike tips over and Momo appears to him.
Daniel is upset.
She tells the kid what her purpose is.
He doesn't believe either one of them.
His sister says she won't go to high school, but will go right to work. (High school is not a requirement in Japan like it is in the U.S.)
A different Reaper and assistant take the life of the girl.
The second pair run into Daniel.
She talks to the target again although the rules say she's not supposed to, and the second Reaper team is there watching her.
He gets mad at her because of something she says and he throws his glove at her. It passes through her, of course.
Then they talk some more.
The previous night he told his father to carry on if anything happens to him, and the next morning the father fixes breakfast for the first time in a long time.
He's been run over by a truck. Momo sheds a tear when she takes his soul.
