Barnabas, Quentin and the Nightmare Assassin

This is a rather unusual but still interesting story. Barnabas and Caroline are out in a car when they have a rack. Inexplicably, they are transported back in time to 1870 Collinwood. Apparently there was a young woman named Caroline living there at that time so the people there think that 1969 Caroline is their Caroline.

Barnabas, without his vampire curse, is there as is Quentin. We meet the Collins of that time with Enoch Collins, the patriarch, not caring much for either Quentin or Barnabas.

Caroline discovers that Barnabas sleeps in his coffin (even though he's not a vampire at that time) and is in love with him. Quentin's problem is that there is an assassin out to kill him. Caroline and Barnabas work hard to find the assassin and to stop Quentin from being killed.

Which brings up a problem. Barnabas and Caroline are from the 1969 timeline as is Quentin. This means that Quentin was never killed in the past timeline unless he was killed and the 1969 timeline got altered which, itself, could very well alter a lot of things itself. Further, if there was a Carolyn living in the 1869 timeline then would the 1969 Caroline or Barnabas or someone else have known about it? There were various art pictures of Collins characters and since Caroline was quite pretty it seems that there should have been a painting of her from the 1869 incarnation yet as far as I know no such painting was ever referred to.

The story is fairly good as long as you overlook the time travel problems.
