American Voices: Japanese Americans

This book is about Japanese Americans in general, but has material in it relating to their internment during WWII. The book discusses the Japanese American community in general including its culture, food, festivals, etc. In the section on internment, it does something which few other books on the subject do and that is include information on Japanese Canadians and their internment in Canada which didn't end until 1947.

It examines Japanese American community culture in Hawaii, California, and east of the Mississippi River.

After this it goes into a brief history of Japan, then examines why Japanese came to the US in the first place. It examines current Japanese American culture and achievements in the U.S. There's a chapter on famous Japanese Americans and a variety of other materials including a glossary, other resources and a bibliography.

This is a very good, relatively short book that hits all the main points for someone who wants a quick introduction to Japanese Americans and what they went through in World War II. It's well written and an excellent introduction to the subject.
