Episode 5: "Battle for Love Resolved"

Nao fixes breakfast, French style, but Kana just wants black coffee and Machiko wants a Japanese-style breakfast. Yuka comes down to breakfast and says her period started three days early and she's in some pain.

Machiko tells Kana she needs to use protection when having sex, and Kana replies that it was Machiko that got pregnant out of wedlock.

Yumiko arrives and says she needs to stay there. She was starting to have sex with her husband and he ended up whispering another woman's name in her ear.

Kana starts to skip school and she finds Tooru in the park. She doesn't want to go to school and deal with Tenko after their previous argument the other night. She does end up going to school though, but Tenko is very cold towards her.

Nao gets a new teacher at her junior high, Yuka is still not feeling well at work, and Matsushima has a toothache so Yuka gives him her boyfriend-dentist's address.

Later Yuka and Matsushima have lunch together.

Later the family is eating dinner together and Maruyama shows up, with Koji already there, and they end up having sort of a sleep-over with some really funny scenes where the guys try to spy on the girls when they are taking their baths.

Nao is starting to be attracted to Koji (who's interested in Kana). Kana goes to the hockey arena and talks to Tooru. Everything seems to be moving towards a showdown at the restaurant where Tooru works as Kana tells Tenko that she wants to talk to her there tonight.

Machiko and Yuka start to have their dinner.

Kana shows up at the restaurant. Maruyama and Matshushima both show up, having previously agreed to meet there and hash things out when Matsushima was at the dentist's.

Nao and Koji arrive to spy on what is happening, and shortly Machikko and Yuka also get there. Everyone is expecting fireworks, but the two adult males turn out to both like the same sports and they get along fine.

An argument erupts between Kana and her mother, Kana accusing her mother of sleeping with guys to get them to buy insurance. Tenko arrives and overhears Kana say that she does not want to see her friendship with Tenko breakup, so those two end up making up and most everyone ends up going to the ramen restaurant.

(They do seem to eat a lot in this series.)

At the restaurant, Machiko says that her husband said that "a woman should be magnanimous." She then has the girls add the other parts, that this means a woman should be "open-minded and fair," "don't be petty and be accepting," and "not to dwell on the past and to be forgiving."
