Episode 9: Last Egg: "To Each, Her Special Eve"

The final episode starts with Tooru letting Kana know that he's been chosen for the college select team and that he wants to play for the NHL in the U.S. He has a chance to go to the U.S. for a year as an exchange student if his team wins the next game.

We learn that Machiko and her husband were separated for a year when he went to France to study cooking, and she was pregnant with Kana at the time.

Yumiko tells Machiko what is going on with Tooru and Kana. Tenko talks to Kana and tells her that she thinks Kana should stop Tooru from going.

The next day Kana goes to the rink to see Tooru who is coughing a little. They win the game and Kana leaves with no one knowing where she went. Machiko, Tenko and Yuka all go to look for her while Nao and Koji stay home in case she calls.

Machiko finds Kana and they have a short talk. Tooru gets there just after Kana runs away. He catches her but collapses shortly thereafter with a fever. Kana manages to get him to his apartment and takes care of him. She also tells him he should take this opportunity to go to America.

A week later Kana is fixing breakfast. It's December 23rd, and Tooru leaves the next day. Kana goes for a walk and sees tooru. Meanwhile, Machiko sets up their Christmas tree and remembers about her husband. Yumiko shows up, and she and Machiko go shopping. Matsushima is going to be transferred to another store, and he wants both Yuka and her fiancée to come to the store Christmas Eve party.

Tooru and Kana are eating and they end up getting into an argument with her running away.

The next day Machiko has the breakfast table done very nicely and fixes the girls eggs while wearing one of her husbands chef outfits. Kana goes to school and Tenko tells her she should be spending the day with Tooru. Machiko comes to school and grabs Kana, dragging her outside to go see Tooru with Koyangi giving them a ride to the airport.

They barely get there in time. Kana gives him a scarf for a present and he gives her a snow globe of a hockey player. Machiko goes to the ramen shop to help out Koyangi. She goes to clean his room and discovers he has lots of photos of her from her modeling days. They end up having a long talk.

At the store party, Masushima announces Yuka's engagement, and Marayama gives her an engagement ring. Later, Kana arrives at the ramen shop where Nao and Yuka are spying on their mother and Koyangi. They all end up in the shop where the closing saying is "love is the most important thing to a woman." It means "to be affectionate and kind," "to be considerate of others," and "to treasure someone with a big, kind heart." While they are saying these things they see an apparition of Machiko's husband.
