Horrors of War Cards, part 1, cards 2 through 65

This card deals with Chinese troops who “cast terror” into the Japanese troops.

This card deals with the “accidental” attack by Japan on the USS Panay (in China) which resulted in the ship being sunk.

Notice the use of a biplane in this card, another one describing Chinese resistance to the Japanese attacks.

This one involves Chinese forces trying to bomb Japanese forces, but missing and killing their own people instead.

This card talks about the Japanese bombing what was, in effect, a neutral zone in the city.

An American ship is apparently accidentally shelled.

Mob violence in Shanghai.

Japanese forces are ambushed by the Chinese.

A boat owned by Americans gets into trouble with the Japanese.

The toll of wall on innocent Chinese civilians.

Fighting around the city of Nanking, where the Chinese used poison gas on the Japanese troops that were attacking.

The Japanese attack a US ship.

The city of Nanking falls, and the defending troops flee, if they can, and take off their uniforms if they can't escape.

Japanese troops cremate dead soldiers.

Tsingtao where the Chinese dynamited some buildings to stop them from falling into Japanese hands.

Another effort by the Chinese to use the “scorched earth policy” to stop Japanese progress.

The Japanese build a pontoon bridge.

Women were also involved in the Chinese resistance.
