The Japanese surrender in Manila. (There was actually a number of surrenders. Most people just think of the one aboard the USS Missouri, but there were others.)
US troops fly in to Japan. Halsey had a fleet of around 400 ships ready outside Tokyo just in case of any form of “treachery,” according to the film.
MacArthur arrives in Japan.
Japanese boat pilots come on board a US ship to help guide the US ships through mine fields that are still in place.
Marines land in amphibious assault boats to seize a Japanese naval base in Tokyo Bay.
The Japanese vice-admiral at the base salutes the American officers in command.
