The Navy Holds: 1942

This is another in the Crusade in the Pacific series.

The video starts out by talking about how naval forces grew in the Pacific.

Admiral Nimitz had command of the naval forces. Then (I assume it's him) he talks about the problems of covering 70,000,000 square miles of area (the Pacific Ocean), especially after the destruction at Pearl Harbor.

Then the video covers a speech by Churchill. It's a very good speech about the Japanese.

The plan was to construct naval bases on some islands, understanding that a strong aerial presence was also necessary. The bases did not have many planes, though, one reason being that much of the material needed was being diverted to the European theater.

It also shows how planes were put together at the bases.

It shows how accidents did happen. In one scene, a large crane falls over into the water.

The Japanese were also busy building bases.

The Japanese troops would relax and sometimes play baseball.
