The Battle of Midway

This is from a series of DVDs called the World War II Collection from a group called Goodtimes Home Video.

Without any doubt at all, this is the absolute worst video about World War II that I have seen out of all of them that I have watched. It's terrible! Beyond terrible! Ultra-dumb narration, music that doesn't even belong to the same war and certain scenes repeated over and over and over. This gives bad a whole new dimension of meaning.

Midway Island.

“These are the natives of Midway Island. Tojo has sworn to liberate them.”

(O.k. That has to be about the funniest description of a scene I have yet seen in any of the videos.)

“An historic council of war is held.”

(Believe me; the video gets worse. It tries for every bit of background music it can from all the services, then Red River Valley along with When Johnny Comes Marching Home. This all to the somewhat non-stirring fake dialog that is used.)

Oh, joy. We get to see lots of planes take off. Course, the video doesn't bother to say where they are going to.

“Suddenly, from behind the clouds, the Japs attack!”

Suddenly, two guys yell “There go the Marines!” (This is all so fake and dubbed over that it's hilarious.)

Background music, The Star-Spangled Banner. The narration: “Yes, this really happened.”

At least the footage of the actual attack, (if they leave out the background music and stupid narration) is quite interesting. The camera rocks when the bomb hits, showing it was something there actually filming the attack on the island.) On the other hand, the film repeats some of the exact same footage over and over.

“Meantime, our warships stalk the Jap fleet.”

Then, in something which makes no sense whatever, the video shows US planes taking off, immediately followed by ships using their anti-aircraft fire, but with no mention of any Japanese planes attacking, so it looks like our own ships are shooting at our own planes that just took off. Didn't anybody bother to edit this film at all???

Just when I thought the narration couldn't get any more stupid or sappy, it does.

Then the video talks about rescue efforts for downed pilots. Background music, “Onward Christian Soldiers.”

Burial services.

Background music: “Over There.” That's the wrong war!!! Didn't anybody pay any attention at all when they did this video????
