Tsunku had his own TV show which was something like American Idol. That didn't work real well, so he put together a group of people who had lost on his show, that group including Natsumi Abe, Kaori Ida, Yuko Nakazawa, Aya Ishiguro and Asuka Fukada. He had them record a song but under the condition that they would manage to sell 50,000 copies of the cd in 5 days.
The song was Ai no Tane and the girls had to do all the work of selling the cds themselves which they managed to do. In four days instead of five. Thus, Morning Musume was born. Morning Coffee became their second single.
