Lightning
Well, if there are disaster movies based on storms, and ones on twisters, then why not one on just lightning? This is another the-experts-won't-listen-to-the-non-professional type of movies.
The film opens up with a view of the Earth from near space and we can see that there are a lot of lightning storms going on all over the globe. When the lighting appears there are dark clouds, but the lightning hits and there is no rain. More and more lightning strikes are taking place.
There's also the usual higher-ups-at-the-facility won't listen to negative things because they are afraid of losing grant money or something else. A professor she knows agrees with what she has found and shows it will be even worse, as he says the storms will unite and usher in a new ice age.
A meteorologist who used used to work with the female professor hates her guts because of something that happened in the past and he keeps trying to shut her up, but a general that is in a think-tank sort of center overrules him and listens to her and how they might be able to stop the storms.
The military nearly blows up the base the guys who are trying to stop the storms are working at but they call off the attack, leaving them to try the device.
Sort of an interesting movie, but not really exciting.
