The Fledgling Handbook 101

This is a book that goes with the House of Night series, and is made to look like an introductory manual for new arrivals at the House of Night. There are a number of illustrations in the book, along with an introduction, a chapter on vampire biology, a chapter on rituals, one on the elements, one on vampire history, and one on messages from other students.

It does point out that not everyone survives the actual change to vampire.

The subjects they study and the arrangement of the classes is actually very interesting. It would be interesting to have a later book, maybe, on the actual origin of vampires. Was it some kind of virus? Was the cause of vampirism a mutation? Or was it actual genetic manipulation on the part of extra-terrestrials? Did human beings and vampires evolve at the same time? Together or separately? What is the actual purpose of vampires? What role do they fill in the ecology?

The book is good, but I'd like to see a sequel that goes into some of the above questions.
