Ten-Story Love, September 1939

This issue of the magazine was only ten cents at the time. The cover is pretty, featuring a very wholesome-looking woman on it.

Some of the ads in the magazine are really directed at men. I don't know if they are in the magazine on purpose, thinking some men will read it, or if they are there because no one thought that it wasn't the right type of magazine for them to be in.

Anyhow, right inside is an ad for a 12 week training in Coyne shops, which is an electrical school. There's an ad for razor blades showing two cowboys. The inside back cover is an ad about Charlie Atlas and “Give me your measure and let me prove I can make you a NEW MAN!” A very odd ad for a women's magazine. The back cover has an ad about something to get rid of athlete's feet.

The stories include:

The Return of Margot James: “She thought success had cheated her of love. Could failure bring it back again?”

No More Sweethearts: “All his kisses were labeled 'to be forgotten.'”

Answer to Heartbreak: “Their romance would have been perfect if only he had remembered to propose.”

Chorus Girl Co-ed: “She thought Broadway had taught her about kisses-but that was before this chorus girl went to college!”

Next is a women's advice section, “The Way to Men's Hearts.” The ways include: be enthusiastic, be appreciative-plus, be mysterious, be yourself, be fastidious, and be dignified”

Afraid of Men: “A thrilling story of Army life-and of a girl who dared a man to make her love him.”

The Last Wedding Guest: “He was determined to take the bridegroom's place”

Separate Loves: “Being with him was war-but Mickie never thought what it would be like to be without him.”

Honeymoon Called Off: “She couldn't forgive him-but she couldn't forget him either!”

Then there's an article “But What Shall I Wear?” which is about what kinds of clothes women should wear to the office, to an after-office dinner date, for a dancing date, for traveling, for entertaining at home, and for sports.

Romance Breaker: “She made the mistake of falling in love with the man who loved the glamour girl of the year.”
