Thrilling Love, August 1943

Notice the “Buy War Bonds” image on the frong cover. All three pictures on the woman's desk are soldiers, and Bataan is mentioned on the cover, showing how much emphasis this cover is giving to World War II. A good portion of this issue is actually factual material related to women and the war effort.

The inside front cover has an ad for Eveready batteries, and the ad is about a bomb hitting London. (There are several things in this issue like this relating to the war, but I can't do scans of them without tearing the issue apart which is something I don't want to do, so I'll just try to describe them.)

A couple pages on, there's a page entitled “Which comes first-Your second helping? or our second front? It's about making sure the soldiers have enough food. At the end, is “Every Civilian a Fighter!”

Love Astrology is the first actual article.

Girl Reporter: “Christy's blond hair brings her an assignment that leads to a whirlpool of glamour, wealth and romance-and draws her into the vortex of heartbreak and intrigue!”

For Those Who Live: “Anne could not tear a memory from her heart-until reality swept aside the veil of illusion!”

This Women's Army (factual): “It is a grand army of fighting women-150,000 strong-and here's all the latest information as to pay, qualifications and opportunities! Listen, girls!”

Lover From Bataan: “Sandy Burton, young swing-shift worker at a bomber plant, and fighting man Blake Amory, wage their own private war of hearts, until they seal the armistice with a kiss!”

Listen, Girls: (factual):Advice for how women can get involved in the civilian war effort like a clothing exchange. There's also a section on how women can join the Women's Reserve of the United States Coast Guard. Also, how to cook codfish soufflé.

Challenge to Love: “Veronica Clayton thought romance had passed her by-wuntil she found it waiting for her on Washington Square!”

The Friendly Set: personal ads.

Wings for Victory: “Airplane assembler Katy finds it difficult to put two and two together in a problem of hearts!”

The back cover, an ad for Calvert but also a push for victory gardens.
