The House of Horror, Feb. 13, 1938

Goodrich safety silver-town tires (?) is the sponsor mentioned at the start of the episode (which is not in good shape, by the way.)

The Shadow is gifted with powers to cloud men's minds and Margo Lane is the only one who knows the Shadow's real identity.

The show starts at the gorilla house with a couple of crooks planning to steal a gorilla. One crook plans to chloroform the gorilla. It passes out and the crook goes in to the cage to get the gorilla. The second crook goes into the cage and the two crooks haul it out. They hear a watchman while they are trying to move it and they shoot him.

They make off with the gorilla in a van.

Lamont is talking to Margo, telling her what happened. The crooks had killed the guard. The cab driver dips into the conversation. He knows someone who knows someone who owns the gorilla. The guy thinks the gorilla just walked out of the cage on his own.

The driver can't explain how the guard was shot, though.

Margo and Lamont stop at a tea room because she wants to go to the place which has someone who tells fortunes. Lamont is eavesdropping on the fortune teller. The fortune teller tells a woman that in a taxidermy shop she will find her missing necklace in the mouth of a stuffed gorilla.

The woman goes to the shop. At first it appears that there is no one in the shop. She spots the gorilla and screams.

The woman ends up strapped to a table. A gorilla is still alive, and the fortune teller is part of this scam (Madame Santo). Some guy tells her he needs two young women for his experiment. He has some kind of strange machine. The young woman will be normal, but will have a super-human strength and will be under his control so they will rob, pillage and murder at his orders.

He plans to do hundreds of human transformations, perhaps even rule the world, at least according to the guy.

The paper the next day talks about a society girl that is missing. Lamont points out to Margo that it's the woman in the tea room that had her fortune told.

Lamont plans to call on Madame Santo as the Shadow.

The fortune teller has a parrot. Suddenly she hears the sound of the Shadow. The woman denies ever having heard of the missing woman, but the Shadow tells her she is lying. The parrot names a professor Fielding? (I'm not sure of the name). The woman gets angry and kills the parrot.

Then it's time for another commercial, again for tires for rainy days. This commercial has the voice of the Shadow used for part of it.

Margo is going to go to the fortune teller to get the address the other woman was sent to. She claims she has lost something and needs the woman to find it for her. The fortune teller uses her crystal ball to claim to find the ring. She gives her the same story she told the other woman.

Margot and Lamont go to the shop. They go into the shop and separate. They hear the live gorilla and Margot finds the stuffed gorilla. She opens the mouth and screams. The first woman starts to wake up while Madame Santo brings in Margo. She had fallen through a trap door.

Margot recognizes the girl who disappeared. The scientist tells her he plans to combine her brain with part of the brain of the gorilla. Madame Santo puts Margo on a table and attaches electrodes to her.

The scientist tries to use the machine but it doesn't work. The Shadow's voice sounds. The Shadow acts like Madame Santo worked with him to get the professor mad at her. He picks up a knife and goes after her. She threatens to open the cage and let the gorilla loose.

It escapes and grabs the professor and then Madame Santo. It comes towards Margot and the Shadow and the Shadow shoots it.

The weed of crime bears bitter fruit. Crime does not pay. The Shadow knows.
