The Voice of Death, Dec. 26, 1937

The parts of Lamont Cranston and the Shadow are played by Orson Welles. Margo Lane is played by Agnes Moorehead.

A rather musical opening with the music so loud it almost blocks out the announcer. The voice explains about the Shadow and Margo Lane.

The show opens with some woman talking to a man with a major storm going on outside. The woman seems to hear little kittens. She asks the guy to go out and find the kittens. He goes outside and is set on by some kind of animal. The guy ends up dying.

Lamont and Margo are going somewhere, apparently the Louisiana bayou. Lamont explains that he knows someone named Arthur who was ultra-sensitive since people made fun of him. He had a very rough voice, apparently. It caused him to leave the medical field. Lamont and Margo are down there fishing (?).

Margo seems something on the road and it turns out to be a fence. They get out of the car to see and the fence has a sign on it; Whittington Hall, says the sign. They also hear the sound of little kittens.

Margo is attacked by large dogs and Lamont chases them off before Margo is hurt.

Later they get to the house. Apparently it's pretty run-down in appearance. Someone opens the door and is nasty to the two, but Arthur tells him to let the two in.

The man that greeted them was Arthur, but Lamont tells Margo that it's not Arthur's voice.

Jasper, the servant, tells Arthur that they are loose again.

Margo doesn't like Arthur and wants to leave, but Lamont says they have to wait out the storm. They hear the sound of kittens again, then they hear a strange human voice in the house.

Lamont tells Arthur about the dogs he and Margo ran into before they got to the house.

Arthur claims he doesn't hear the voice in the house and he says the voice is from a cousin of his. He says the guy is locked in the room because he's not right mentally.

Suddenly a guy appears and he has a harsh voice. The voice of the man is the voice that used to be Arthur's, Lamont says.

The sound of kittens is heard again, and then the sound of a guy moaning is also heard. Lamont and Margo go to the room with the guy, but Lamont says he'l talk to the guy alone.

Arthur is beating Harper, the guy with Arthur's actual voice. Harper hears the voice of the Shadow after Arthur leaves the room. Harper explains to the Shadow what has happened to him. He warns the Shadow that Lamont and Margo will not get out of the house, that Arthur will use them for his experiments.

Harper has been kept prisoner in the house. He also says the savage dogs have been given the voice of little kittens.

Margo is in the other room and talks to Arthur. He claims he wants to show Margo her room and she goes with him. She goes into the room and he locks the door. He turns on a lamp and Margo finds out she's in his laboratory.

The walls are sound-proofed so her cries for help aren't heard. He ties her to a table. She struggles but he is stronger than her. The transference of voices is his work, he claims. He shows her a box with a cat in it; he plans to transfer her voice into the cat.

He wants vengeance against the entire human race.

Suddenly the voice of the Shadow is heard. The Shadow hits him and lets Margo free. Arthur tries to run away, but he's attacked by the giant dogs and killed by them.

The Shadow ends up shooting the dogs. Then he lets the police know and they free Harper.

(This particular recording did not have any commercials.)
