Asking for an Ally
You may well already be familiar with the term "Ally". This is one of the terms that became popular with the works of Carlos Castaneda. An ally is someone or something that will come to your aid. The "some thing" can include an animal, a plant, a mineral, or something from our more "modern" world. Such allies represent the Animal Kingdom, the Plant Kingdom, the Mineral Kingdom, and our "modern world" Communications Kingdom and Transportation Kingdom. Any of these, or more than one, can come to your aid when needed.
An ally is essentially some one, or some thing, that can become a friend and a helper. They don't come automatically, though. You need to desire one, and ask for one.
HOW TO ASK FOR AN ALLY
Sit quietly. Calm your thoughts. Center your body and focus your awareness. Send out a mental message asking for an ally to appear. Be prepared for visual images, sound images, smells, even tactile feelings to occur.
Perhaps your ally won't come immediately. Be observant. Your ally may appear to you while you are out walking (a crow paying very close attention to you, for example.) It might appear anywhere, at any time. Be open, and be observant.
When an ally does appear to you, talk to the ally. Talk physically if the ally appears in a physical form; spiritually or mentally if in a non-physical form. Greet and welcome the ally. Tell it you appreciate its appearing. Ask for its help. Be prepared to receive any messages from the ally, including messages that may say you need to do specific things to help yourself at the same time.
When the ally is ready to leave, thank the ally for appearing. Be appreciative.

TALKING TO ANIMALS
Don't worry about someone seeing you talking to an animal, for example, and thinking you are nuts. It's actually quite fun to talk to wild animals. I have talked to many squirrels, and usually they will stop and pay attention to what I'm saying. They'll move around on the limb so they can look me straight in the eye. One squirrel one time even played hide-and-seek, going around a tree trunk, pausing here and there to see if I was still talking to it.
Animals may not necessarily understand our words, but they do understand the feelings behind the words. Take cats, for example. Let's say you can't stand cats, and you go to a friend's house who has a cat. There are seven people there, all of them cat-lovers but you. Who does the cat go to and rub against, and whose lap does the cat try to get in?
Yours, of course.
While you are at it, don't forget to talk to flowers. Some preliminary studies have shown flowers and other plants that are talked to in a warm and loving manner grow better than those who aren't. (They also like classical music better than heavy metal).
Even rocks can be talked to. All things are filled with spirit, just as you. Maybe spirit in a slightly different form, but spirit nevertheless.
