Astral Travel
Many books are appearing these days on the subject of "out-of-body experience". Humans are, of course, more than just their physical bodies. There is also an astral self to the human being, and that astral self can be sent away from the physical body and still maintain its intelligence and independent activity. There have been numerous cases of people having near-death experiences who report they "floated" above their bodies, and were able to see the readings on banks of instruments facing away from their physical bodies.
This is the astral self. The general concept is that it is connected to the human physical self by the "silver cord", although not all people accept this as a given. You can learn to separate the astral from the physical body. Following is a meditation to help you get started in doing just that.
Note: you may want to tape this meditation in your own voice so you can play it back any time you choose.
MEDITATION FOR ASTRAL TRAVEL
1. Find a comfortable place to do your meditation in. In this case it would be better if you could lie down while doing the meditation.
2. Still your mind, and focus your attention. Mentally visualize a beam of white light coming down from above, and encircling your body. This is a protective field for your body and completely encloses it. Nothing can enter that field without your permission. See this field as strong and glowing, completely surrounding you, before you continue.
3. Now go through a physical relaxation. First relax your toes. Allow your toes to go limp. Then begin to relax the center part of your feet. Feel the muscles relaxing, all strain and stress draining out of them. Gradually let the relaxation spread up through your ankles. Now your feet and ankles are relaxed.
Feel the wave of relaxation spreading up through your lower legs. Feel all the muscles relax and go limp. Let the relaxation now move up to your thighs. Feel all the muscles of your legs now relax completely, all stress and strain draining from them. Let the wave of warmth and relaxation now move up through your abdomen. Feel your muscles relax. Feel your internal organs calm down and relax.
Let the relaxation now move up through your chest. Feel those muscles relax, letting all stress and strain drain out. Let the wave of warmth and relaxation now move through your arms, down to your hands and your fingers. Let your arms go totally limp and relaxed.
Let the wave of relaxation move through your neck. Feel your neck muscles loosen and relax. Let the wave of relaxation now move up over your head. Feel the muscles of your face relax. Feel your forehead relax. Feel the muscles of your scalp relax and go limp.
Let yourself enjoy the relaxation before going further.
When you are ready, center yourself and your attention. See your astral self glowing within your physical body. Imagine now your astral self beginning to slowly separate from your body. Let your astral feet separate first from your physical feet. Feel the astral self start to rise up from your body. Now let your astral legs begin to separate from your physical legs.
Relax, and let the astral self separate now from your abdomen. Let the wave of separation move on up through your chest; your arms; your neck and finally your head.
Relax for a few moments. Let your astral self float just above your physical body.
Now imagine your astral self re-entering your body. Let your astral head merge with your physical head; now your neck merges; your arms merge; your chest merges; your abdomen merges; your upper legs merge; your lower legs merge; now your feet merge.
Relax. Know that you can repeat this exercise anytime you wish. In the future, once you have separated your astral self from your physical body you may wish to move away from your physical self, rising up through your roof and viewing the neighborhood around you. As you get more and more comfortable with the process you may wish to journey even further.
Know that you can recall your astral self back into your physical self at any time you wish. Decide in advance some code word for your mind; perhaps the word "now", or the number "1". When you say that word or that number to yourself, your astral self will immediately merge with your physical self.
It is not impossible that, in such a case, it may take a little time for you to physically adjust to the sudden merging. This is normal.
