Channeling

Channelers can also end up being people who pull in the big bucks. There are many such examples in today's New Age world. Channeled messages spawn numerous books and magazine articles. People sometimes uproot their entire lives based on a particular channeled message.

Yet even within the New Age community the actual source of the channeled messages is hotly debated. It could be the person's own "higher self", connected to the cosmic, that is delivering a message. It could be actual entities such as extraterrestrial beings.

On the other hand, it could be the activities of a fanciful mind.

Channeling is not the same as mediumship. Mediumship concerns itself with contacting the spirits of the known dead. As with channeling, this is subject to a great deal of controversy.

As pointed out before, the channeled messages are generally very similar, very bland. Specific facts which can be researched are few and far between, as are successful prophecies. One technique of channeling-writers is to write a book with particular prophetic channeled messages, then write a follow-up pointing out with great wonder where the messages were correct; and totally glossing over the more voluminous number of totally inaccurate messages.

One problem is that many people have somehow formed the opinion that the "other entities" are necessarily brighter and more evolved spiritually than are we. Even in mediumship there is a tendency to assume that once a person has died they immediately work out their human problems and become incredibly knowledgeable.

The most likely case is that once a person dies, they die, and are no more or no less intelligent then they were in their physical form. It seems most probable that people end up working on the "other side", continuing to try to improve themselves spiritually, and will take a very, very, very, very long time before they would become so "evolved" that they would be able to deliver the mystical messages found in channeling.

There is equally no reason to assume that the "other entities", even those who never had a physical body, are any more or less intelligent than any of us. Although channeled messages, (at least some of them), may actually be true, it is always best to take this phenomenon with a very large grain of salt.
