Music for Spiritual Work

Another source you should not overlook is music that can prove useful in your spiritual work Examples of some types of music that might prove useful include:

1. Native American flute music by Carlos Nakai. (Example: Canyon Trilogy). His flute music is extremely beautiful and relaxing, very good for meditation.

2. Native American flute music by John Rainer, Jr. (Example:Songs of the Indian Flute). Also beautiful and relaxing.

3. Nature sounds. Some tapes and CDs have only the sounds of nature (such as a thunderstorm), while others have the sounds mixed with relaxing music. Some examples include:

  • a. Relaxation and Meditation with Music and Nature
  • b. Sailboat Journey enhanced with Celtic harp and pan flute
  • c. Desert Winds
  • d. Gentle Rain
  • e. Mountain Streams
  • f. Thundering Rainstorm
  • g. Peaceful Ocean Surf
  • h. A Walk in the Forest

There is also the entire Environments series of tapes and CDs that are good.

4. Various other-worldly-type singers such as Enya and Loreena McKennitt, both of whom produce incredibly beautiful and moving music. With their works the best idea would be to make your own tape of the selections you find most appealing and useful in your meditation and then use that tape instead of entire albums.

5. Gregorian Chants. Some people find these chants to be quite relaxing, while others do not feel they can use them because they represent Christianity and all that it stands for which, to many Pagans, is a history of violence and bloodshed against Pagans and their beliefs.

Anything else you find that you consider useful you should use. After all, you should be tailoring your meditations and rituals to your needs and your interests. Such rituals and meditations are not "cookbook" items, but ones that should be personalized for you and by you for your own use.
