ESTABLISHING PERSPECTIVE
Some people make the mistake of assuming that they are the center of the universe, that all people and all things exist for their personal use and abuse. On the other hand, there are people who are exactly the opposite; so humble and with such low self-esteem that they basically wear signs saying "kick me".
The truth of our lives is really between those two extremes, and the following will help you establish such a perspective in your life.
1. As usual, smudge yourself and your work area. Sit and relax, become calm and focus your mind.
(As with other meditations you might want to make a tape-recording to yourself covering the following steps so you can then listen to the words and concentrate on them without the distraction of having to read the words on the paper.)
2. See yourself on a plateau. There are wildflowers everywhere, and the smell carried on the breeze is wonderful. The sun is shining, there are a few fluffy white clouds in the sky, and you can just make out the sound of an eagle as it soars majestically overhead.
3. Watch as a guide appears for you. Listen to your guide as he or she explains to you that the distance from the plateau to the ground below represents the distance you have come on your spiritual path.
4. Continue to listen as your guide points heavenward, and explains that the distance represents how far you have yet to go on your path. The guide will praise the work you have done, but still point out that there is much to do.
5. Now watch as the guide points out other people. Some of these people are further down the sides of the plateau than are you. Some of the people even appear to be on the surface of the ground. These are people who have not advanced as far as you on their spiritual paths.
6. Listen as your guide tells you to look up. See that there are innumerable people above you, seemingly suspended in mid-air. Each of these people have advanced further than you, on their paths.
7. KNOW THAT THIS IS THE WAY THINGS SHOULD BE! This is the natural order of things. You are no better and no worse than millions upon millions of other people. You are where you are supposed to be at this moment.
8. Watch as other spirits appear. These are all spirits who are willing to help you on your path. You have many, many helpers. You do not walk your path alone. But you walk your path at your own rate. You can see others moving slower than you, and others moving faster than you. Again, that is the way things should be!
9. Feel a warmth encircling your form, and know that this is the warmth of the love felt for you by the Creator. Your body is surrounded by a pink glow; the glow of the love that you feel. Look now at all the other people: EVERYONE IS SURROUNDED BY THAT GLOW OF LOVE! The Creator loves everyone, no matter where they are on his or her path. You are loved where you are. It makes no difference whether that is behind or ahead of anyone else that you may know. You are fine where you are. You are loved where you are.
10. Conclude your meditation by thanking your guides for their help. Come back to full alertness, and go do something positive.
