How to Perform a Salt Warding

Purposes for performing a salt warding include the following:

  • 1. To clear negativity from an area, object or person.
  • 2. To create a "clear zone" against negativity for the same things.

Examples of some candidates for possible salt wardings can include:

  • 1. Your own home.
  • 2. Your automobile(s), in which you spend a fairly good portion of your time.
  • 3. Altars and related holy places.
  • 4. Your workplace, again in which you spend a lot of time, and often may be time you consider rather negative.
  • 5. Your pets (if they will stand still for it).
  • 6. Your children (under 18).
  • 7. Any area you are expected to be in.
  • 8. Any object you own or use regularly.

What you are trying to do is make anything you use, are around, or are associated with on a fairly frequent basis, free of negativity.

A salt-warding will be utterly useless on an individual who does not desire it. By the same token, objects or areas owned by one who does not desire that these objects or areas be warded, cannot be warded successfully. You can ward the small area you occupy (even when it is owned by another) for short periods of time, if you have their permission to be there (even in a roundabout way). In effect, you cannot override someone else's will or spiritual beliefs.

There are two ways to use the salt for a warding:

  • 1. Right out of the box (dry).
  • 2. In water.

If you choose to use a salt-water solution, you can charge or consecrate water with salt in it a number of ways. The quickest and easiest is to place your finger or a ceremonial knife or dagger into the saltwater and chant a consecration blessing. You can make up your own, or use this one:

"I consecrate this salt/saltwater in the name of (pick your favorite deity). May it cleanse this place/object of all negativity."

Either take the salt straight from the box, or take the salt-water you have mixed, and sprinkle it on the object you wish to ward, while chanting a rede which reflects your desire. Visualization of the cleansing/protection you propose is very important - your warding won't work without it. You need to put a lot of yourself into your warding.

Formulate a short incantation for this purpose. Following are two generic ones:

"Earth without, earth within,

Make the mill of magic spin

Work this spell for which I pray"

"Earth in front, earth behind

Make this incantation bind

Ward this object, make it shine

Expel all evil and its kind."

When warding a large area, sprinkle the salt or water liberally (you'll need a lot, if warding a house). If warding a place in which you need to be discreet, salt water is best, of course, since it is less obvious.

Sprinkle a circle around the area you are warding. It doesn't have to be a visibly-connecting circle; just surround the place. Then sprinkle all that is within the circle. If you are warding a house, make the same circle (preferably counter-clockwise) around the inside of each room. Then circle/sprinkle any furniture/object within that you desire to have more protection around.

If you are warding an object, then circle it, while chanting, and then sprinkle on the center of the object.

If you are warding a car, circle it, and then sprinkle liberally on the inside. Don't forget the motor, trunk and under-carriage.

When warding people, anoint (or sprinkle) the chakras, starting at the crown, Be more detailed with the body, as dictated by your desire.

When finished with these procedures, end with a definitive statement such as "So mote it be" or "Hetchetu welu" (Sioux - "It is done").

Perform the warding as you feel necessary. In many cases, a regular warding program may be appropriate.

A bit of warning: when working to expel negativity, it has to go somewhere. Ward yourself before starting these procedures, so it doesn't find residence on or within you. At some point in your warding, if not using the Earth chants, be sure to direct the expelled negativity into the earth, that it may be transformed.
