Alice's Adventures in Wonderland 1973 movie

This is a live action semi-musical version of the classic story Alice in Wonderland. It has a number of actors who are well known including Dudley Moore, Peter Sellers and Ralph Richardson. Fiona Fullerton plays Alice.

It does tend to stick quite closely to the actual story, so that's something in its favor.

Unfortunately, that's all in its favor. First off, it must have been made on the smallest budget they could find. Almost all the backgrounds are cheap, poorly painted scenes. Some of the costumes are ok, but some were not that very well made.

It's sort of a musical in that there are some musical numbers, but not that many so it's hard to tell if they really wanted it to be a regular musical or just threw a few musical numbers in at whim.

The "special effects", such as Alice falling down the rabbit-hole are what you'd expect for a movie made this long ago; passable but not very believable.

The main problem, at least for me, is in the choice of actress for Alice. Fiona Fullerton simply looked too old for the part. Alice is supposed to be a young, innocent and somewhat naive girl; Fullerton is too well-developed physically and her face, albeit extremely attractive, is obviously a woman's face and not a young girl's. She's just not believable playing Alice and that bothered me throughout the movie so, in general, even though I like Alice in Wonderland as a story (and Disney's animated version), this is a version that I simply cannot recommend.
