Goose Girl

This is a fairy-tale-type of story about a young girl named Ani. She's a princess, but not particularly favored by her parents, and she's sent off to marry a prince of a nearby kingdom, which is something that happened in real life quite often.

The problem is that her serving girl is not trustworthy. Ani ends up running for her life, hiding out in a city in a foreign country, taking a job handling geese.

That's not her only problem, though, as she has the ability to talk to many animals, learning their languages, and that's not something that people take kindly to, thinking it's a form of evil.

Plus, her closest friend from her home country apparently is dead, the prince isn't who he seems, and there's a number of people who want her dead.

Ani has to manage somehow to hide her identity, get the king to recognize her as the real princess, and avoid a war taking place between her home country and the one she ends up in.
