UGLIES series

A really good series of books about a future where the human race is recovering from a self-inflicted disaster. People aer called "uglies" until they reach a certain age, get a certain operation, and then become "pretties." Pretties live for fun, and they are nice and compliant.

There are, though, still those who challenge the system and Tally Youngblood is one of them. The series tells of her life from being an Ugly to being a Pretty to being a Special. It's an excellent series of books with some thought-provoking material on how humans damage their environment.
