Pinocchio

This is a much drawn-out version of the story, starting with a tree that is quite evil. It is eventually chopped down and Geppetto ends up with wood from the tree and he makes Pinocchio from that wood. He cherishes the boy since it's the closest to a 'real' son he has ever had.

The framing story is a present-day couple with a son named Jacob who is no better than Pinocchio.

There's a take-off on the story of Job (and is unrealistic in this story), and in the end Belinda is revealed to be the one behind all that has gone wrong.

It's an interesting take on the story but I don't think it's the best adaptation they have done. It's too obvious Pinocchio will be evil right from the start, meaning he never really had a chance to be anything but evil. The present-day theme doesn't really fit very well, either.
