Ranko's Tale

Review

This is another of the unfinished stories that I have found.

The story is based on the concept that there is no Ranma; there is a Ranko, born female. Genma, however, basically refuses to accept the fact and even refers to her as "boy." Denial on a major scale.

From that points the story uses the original series but diverts from it as necessary with Ranko being fully female and uncursed. The four chapters are done well and it's a very good story; I just wish it would have been continued as it shows a lot of potential.

Synopsis

Chapter 1

The series opens in a similar manner, but instead of introducing herself as Ranma Saotome she introduces herself as Ranko Saotome and says her father always wanted a boy. There's a lot of humor in this like when introductions are being made and Genma says that Ranko is his son, saying "Shut up boy! You sound like a girl!" to which Ranko replies "That's because I am a girl you moron!"

Apparently at Jusenkyo Genma was trying to find out which spring to kick Ranko in to change her into a boy.

Ranko and Akane quickly become good friends.

Chapter 2

Much of the chapter is the normal Akane-fights-her-way-to-school portion. Ranko thinks Kuno is cute, then we go back to the "stand-in-the-hall" portion from the manga with the engagement announced and Kuno appearing.

This time Ranko justs kicks him in the face and she and Akane walk away.

Chapter 3

Akane and Ranko fought the boys all week, then on the last day Ryouga shows up, but this one is in love with Ranko (and sounds like Kuno when he talks.)

There's a funny take on the 3-day delayed fight in this version. Ranko had been dating Ryouga and one time she wanted 3 days for him to show up (he lived next door) and when he finally did she broke up with him.

Later Ryouga shows up at the dojo and yells for Ranko. A storm starts and Ranko finds a pig and takes it inside, not realizing that it's Ryouga. Akane finds out later, though, but promises Ryouga she won't tell Ranko.

Chapter 4

Genma gets beaten up by Ukyo. Ukyo later gets enrolled in the same class as Ranko and Akane and attacks Ranko.

Ranko and Ukyo fight and Ranko ends up chasing Ukyo and grabs her which is when she realizes that Ukyo is really a girl. Genma shows up again and gets beaten up some more and Ranko and Ukyo re-establish their friendship.
