Criterion Files #29: Picnic at Hanging Rock

The file can be found:here.

The main points of the article include:

1.Just because something is said to be based on fact does not mean it actually is.

2.Picnic at Hanging Rock works both as a fiction piece and as a supposed historical event.

3.There's a subtext of exploration of sexuality.

4.The article talks about the final chapter and the corsets suspended in mid-air.

5.The author feels that the girls 'ascended to a higher state of being.'

6;Sara might have committed suicide since she was not able to go with the girls or she might have been murdered by Mrs. Appleyard.

7.Irma was found after several days. She had not eaten or drunk in that time and should have been suffering from dehydration if not dead of starvation yet she was relatively okay. It could mean she ws in a suspended time or something like that.
