The Mysterious Girls of Picnic at Hanging Rock

The original article can be found here.

Viewers become almost voyeurs as they watch the girls.
What the people who made the Amazon series wanted to do was explore the 'hothouse' of girls and what happens when you 'lock them up, restrain them, force them to be what society thinks they should be.' (One thing to remember is that most of the girls must come from well-to-do families to be able to afford the expenses for going to that school. The behavior expected of the girls would be much more structured than for the average girl who didn't attend any such school.)
The new version of Mrs. Appleyard is more 'menancing' than then Mrs. Appleyard in the original movie. She also has a much more developed background.
The new Picnic at Hanging Rock is more like a gothic horror.
The question in the movie is not how the girls disappeared by why. (The problem is that any explanation needs to account for the much older Miss Mc Craw also disappearing.
