Top 10 Australian Films in a 1995 Industry Survey

As part of the Australian Centenary of Cinema in 1995, the Victorian Centenary of Cinema Committee and the National Film and Sound Archive conducted an industry-based poll asking what are the most significant Australian films of all time. The films chosen were seen as having continuing cultural, aesthetic or historical significant, rather than being necessarily popular or commercially successful. Forms were given to members of the Australian Film Institute, industry guilds and unions, film critics and reviewers, academics and media teachers, and NFSA's Kookaburra Card members. These are the results:

1. Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975)

2. Mad Max (1979)

3. My Brilliant Career (1979)

4. Strictly Ballroom (1992)

5. Breaker Morant (1980)

6. Gallipoli (1981)

7. Sunday Too Far Away (1972)

8. Jedda (1955)

9. The Year My Voice Broke (1987)

10. Newsfront (1978)

It's good to see Picnic at Hanging Rock in first place!
