Movie Review from Cinema City

Peter Weir-who went on to direct many fine movies, among them Green Card and The Dead Poets' Society-established himself with this lyrical period piece. On a hot summer's day in 1900, a teacher and a group of girls from a posh Australian boarding school set out for a picnic. From such ostensibly undramatic material, he has fashioned an intriguing and memorable mystery story.
