CountryMouse's Diary

Part 42

Thursday, July 1, 2004: Wow, a new month already!  July Blinkie

Stuff that's been happening: yes, you know I have had breast cancer. I went for my annual mammogram on Tuesday, had some (what seemed to me) uncertain news and had to wait anxiously for my doctor to receive the report from the radiologist. My doc phoned me today: all is well! Woohoo! So ladies, just remember, have those mammograms, even if you might be scared by what could be found. Better to find something early (which was how mine was originally found) than later when treatment would be a lot more difficult!

Be Aware

Other news: The Garden of Friendship is having its 4th Birthday--all month!! Here is my page of celebration. And I also added a few more doodads to My GOF Dedication Page too.  :-) [EDIT Jan. 14, 2005: These pages are gone, as I left the Garden of Friendship in November 2004]

Saturday, July 3, 2004, 12:41am: It's later than I *thought*! Well, I finally redid my main index page so that the main table there looks right in Mozilla. There was one flukey little thing in one cell that was throwing everything off kilter; but I had to redo the table step-by-step, viewing each step in Mozilla as I went along, to see what the one thing was that needed to be fixed. Of course, if you increase the text size when viewing in your browser, it's going to throw some things off. But I can't worry about *everything*. :-p

7:33am: Wow, Mozilla sure can be sucky. I was checking something else out on my site with it; and uh, where are all my ALT tags?! I asked Cat'r. There aren't any. There is no way to turn them on in Mozilla. That's really REALLY not helpful. I put a lot of work into making things more usable, more accessible. ALT tags are part of that. Well, technically ALT tags are to help people in text-only browsers. But they are really useful to graphical browsers too.

Sunday, July 4th, 2004: Happy Independence Day  !!!

Yay! I figured you can never have too many blinkies ::grin:: so I added more beautiful stuff last-minute to my Mouse House Fourth of July page! Go see! Hee hee!

I don't know if I will bother taking photos today of our little "fireworks" stuff, since it will be essentially the same as last year, which you can see here. Also there is a QuickTime movie I did last year.

Eek, grey out. The radar says it's raining in the area. Maybe it will clear off a bit so we can do our little fireworks in an hour or so, before it gets too hot out for mice to venture forth. :-P

Hope your holiday is great! Have fun! And enjoy what's behind this day and our freedom!

Monday, July 5, 2004, 1:44am: Every once in a while I can *still* hear a distant boom ofA Hat Full of Sky fireworks being set off, at *this* hour!

We set off our little smoke bombs, party poppers, and drop pops (reminiscent of the cap guns of long ago) around noon. It was breezy and pleasant out. There were others setting off loud somethings in the next yard or so over. :-)

Online quite a bit. After that Cat'r finished reading aloud to me Terry Pratchett's The Wee Free Men, which we started on in early May! Then he started on its sequel, A Hat Full of Sky. (click the pic at right to see it larger) This promises to be just as good!

I grabbed a nap. I awoke to the sound of fireworks near and far! We went out and lit a few sparklers; but the wind was whipping around, making it difficult to light them. All around we could hear LOTS of fireworks and see flashes of light, but we couldn't see the actual fireworks! We have a lot of trees and tall buildings blocking the skyline here. Eventually we *did* see some pretty fireworks through a gap in the trees to the south. It is always heartening to me to feel "a part of it all", knowing that folks all around our neighbourhood, our city, our state, our country, are doing the same thing. A very connected feeling. :-)

When we came inside Cat'r and I watched the Boston Pops fireworks show. I was a little disappointed that they didn't finish with the traditional 1812 Overture plus cannons and all. :-( A bit of a letdown. The fireworks were lovely, but it just wasn't the same.

Mother Nature's fireworks here very soon--thunderstorms! Hope you all had a great holiday!

Saturday, July 10, 2004:  The Garden of Friendship is having a big tailgate party this weekend, as part of their month-long 4th Birthday Bash festivities! Go see! [EDIT Jan. 14, 2005: These pages are gone now] And...why not join us? Lots of fun, lots of wonderful folks!

Sunday, July 11, 2004: I did my Sunday assignment from WOSIB Creators Garden and learned how to make my own PSP tube! [EDIT Nov. 28th: I have since left the Creators Garden, so the page is no longer there] And also the quilt square ended up on My Squares For You page.

La Pucelle: TacticsNew games in the last few days: (click on the pics to see them larger) I got "Ribbit King", which is a very cute and funRibbit King golf game...in which you launch frogs instead of golf balls! I got a used copy of Monster Rancher 4, but it looks a lot harder than the preceding three versions (all of which I have and have played). Cat'r got "La Pucelle: Tactics". This looks really cute. It's set in the Marle Kingdom, where Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure takes place. Cat'r said I might like playing it; so I am going to get a strategy guide, just to be sure I know what I am doing. :-)

Tuesday, July 13, 2004, 10:55pm: I have a new page up, which will become more than one page eventually. It's My Needlework Projects. It's what I used to do before I was online; and what I am becoming interested in again. I am in the midst of completing one long-overdue present; and I've started one (shhh!) Christmas present!

Lord GaneshaWednesday, July 14, 2004: Look at what I ordered last night...from an online shop in Thailand! (click on the picture to see it larger!) It's a counted cross stitch kit of a gorgeous picture of Lord Ganesha! I can't wait! The finished size is 16 x 21.5 inches. I also have some ideas of designing some simplified counted cross stitch stylized/silhouette pictures of Him. ::bounce bounce::

Thursday, July 15, 2004, 11:39am: A new splash page/entrance, in honour of High Summer! The firefly/starlight page, which was my splash page from June 1st-July 14th, is now Summer Starlight and is part of the Holiday Pages section.

2:52pm: A couple more pieces added to My Needlework Projects

Saturday, July 17, 2004: I have added to my spirituality section: my Lord Ganesha pages. I put off far too long making pages about the Beloved One.

Sunday, July 18, 2004: Eek! I can't believe I didn't change the links (throughout my site!) back when I went from my new-fangled Movable Type blog back to this, good ole CountryMouse's Diary! I think I have found all the broken links and fixed them now. ::phew!:: Why didn't you-all write and tell me about broken links?! Eeeeeep!

Tuesday, July 20, 2004, 12:45pm:  W00t! The theme this week in the WOSIB Charm Club is...MICE!!! Hee hee! :-)  I've only got the charms I've made up there so far...but more from other members later today!

1:58pm: Okay, my WOSIB Charm Club pages are all updated as of right now. [EDIT Jan. 14, 2005: These pages are no longer there] But I am sure more of the members are going to be sending in mousie charms, and I'm gonna SNAG 'em! :-p

Friday, July 23, 2004: So many beautiful gifts from various people in the Garden of Friendship! It's all part of their 4th Annual Birthday Bash! Go see the new pages I made, for the special gifts! [EDIT Jan. 14, 2005: These pages are gone, as I am no longer in the GOF]

You are always on my mind.Monday, July 26, 2004, 5:34am: I heart my Caterpillar.

 Love forever

Everyone says you can only fall in love once. That's not true because every time I see your face I fall in love all over again.

Teresa Heinz KerryWednesday, July 28, 2004, 1:18am:  "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" is auto-taping right now because I couldn't tape it when it first ran last night at 10pm: I was taping the Democratic National Convention at that time! Wow, Teresa Heinz Kerry! What a woman, what a speaker! I am so enjoying watching the convention! See more in my LiveJournal (this entry and onward). And go see John Kerry's official site!  John Kerry - Leadership  <--click on the button

Yippee! My beautiful Ganesha counted cross stitch kit (see above) arrived today (well yesterday, but it's still Tuesday to me)! The colour of the Aida cloth is more a rust than the red it seems in the photo. But it's gonna be soooo beautiful! Also in my order is a little bookmark kit that looks so pretty! That will be fun to do.

I need sleeeeep. But I have to get up in a couple hours to get make sure Cat'r gets his medicine. He's feeling much better than a couple days ago! Whew! :-)

Thursday, July 29, 2004, 7:53am: Someone just reacquainted me with The Wayback Machine ('Net version--not the original WABAC from The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show). I was looking at older incarnations of The Mouse House. Weeeird, yet nostalgic. It used to be at http://w3.one.net/~fleur/    if some of y'all remember. It feels slightly creepy that someone/something has been archiving ALL this stuff!

Remember when people used to "save" certain Tamagotchi sites ("just in case they go down, so we won't lose them"), then put them up on their *own* servers?? I used to have a horror that someone would do that with my site. If I am doing pages, they are are still mine, even if I choose to take them down. I know there was at least one person out there ready to do that with my Tamagotchi pages. I don't know now if anyone much cares anymore. But I haven't had the urge to take down my pages for some time now. My pages are an expression, an extension of my self. So....other than archiving machines like the Wayback, I would really REALLY not like my pages being saved and put up by anyone else. Grrr.

And MORE Grrrrr! What is going on with the Weather Pixies?!? They have been broken since yesterday! Eeeeek!

Friday, July 30, 2004, 7:21am:  I need to get to my LiveJournal [EDIT: all LiveJournal archives are now at CountryMouse's Refuge]. I need to answer someone's comment to me and try to clarify things. LiveJournal is not working. AT ALL.

The Weather Pixies are still totally broken. Did Tamlin run out of money for her provider? What is going on?

I also want to find out what my LiveJournal Friends thought of Kerry's speech last night. I thought he did the job and got all his points across well. Very good fourth and final night to the Democratic Convention, IMO!

Saturday, July 31, 2004: We had a very interesting activity this week in the WOSIB Charm Club: create a charm that represents *you*; then create a box of nine charms representing your hobbies and interests! Go to my WOSIB Charm Club page, then click on Personal Charm Box (under Themes). This was a fun project, and I am pleased I was able to come up with something I feel proud of.  :-) [EDIT Jan. 14, 2005: The pages are no longer there. But here is my charm and Charm Box!]
