CountryMouse's Diary

Part 49

Tuesday, February 1, 2005, 4:01am: It's February  already! Eeeek! Just like last year, I am running up against the bad-luck deadline! I have to get the Christmas decorations down TODAY!

Public service announcement:

Go Red Day Feb. 4th
National Wear Red Day for Women

Click the plaque and/or link and go see all about it! This plaque (and awareness of women's heart disease) was sent to me by Heaven's Angels.

Ya gotta go see this. Hehehehehehee! Ain't it the truth?!

1:35pm: New needlework photos up!

2:11pm: Look what Bunnicula brought home! It's Volume 5 & 6 of the Mr. Bean Animated Series! (click on the pic at right to see it larger) Now we *have* to get the other two sets! I've watched two episodes so far, and they are really cute and funny. I especially liked the bonus material showing Rowan Atkinson voicing the part(s!). Too funny! I'm planning on getting the "Mr. Bean - The Whole Bean" DVD set (regular series, complete, well mostly) later this month. We've seen all the episodes, but it would be great to watch them again!

Happy Ground Hog's Day Feb. 2005

Today is also Imbolc on the Pagan/Wiccan Wheel of the Year; and it's Candlemas on the Catholic/Anglican calendar. Here is an old weather rhyme for this day (which I first saw in The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady by Edith Holden):

"If Candlemas Day be fair & bright
  Winter will have another flight
But if Candlemas Day be clouds & rain
Winter is gone & will not come again."

Anyway, I hear that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning, so we are in for six more weeks of winter! And as I sit here, I see the morning sun illuminating my window. So we all have more time to knit and crochet hats and scarves and warm things! Woohoo! Oooo, I want to make wrist warmers! Maybe today?

Thursday, February 3, 2005, 8:14am: Do not doubt Punxsutawney Phil! We have an inch or so of lovely snow on the ground this morning! Winter is still here, for sure! Now isn't it a good thing Cat'r got a brand new heavy-duty snow brush/scraper for his new car??   :-)

Cat'r was able to locate Volume 1 & 2 of the Mr. Bean Animated Series yesterday! (click on the pic at right to see it larger) Now we just need 3 & 4, and we'll have the entire set.  :-)  So cute! I especially love the episodes involving Mr. Bean's Teddy, since I have a Mr. Bean teddy bear!

Saturday, February 5, 2005, 8:40am: (xposted to the LiveJournal Crochet community):

Too many WIPs?

Ack! I need to finish *something*! I have the beginning of a hat on a Knifty Knitter loom (which I could finish in just a couple hours if I got *to* it); I have the coordinating crocheted (double crochet) scarf almost halfway finished; I started a furry purple skinny scarf (LB MicroSpun and LB Fun Fur), but have to do that in bright daylight; last night I started a scarf in Caron Jewel Box Emerald (pattern on the inside of the label) because it uses some stitches I hadn't learned yet and I am finding it fascinating; then there is still DH's LB Homespun hdc lapghan; my single crochet poncho (I forget which magazine this is in, but it's trimmed in LB Incredible ribbon yarn); a star-shaped lapghan (I don't have the desire to get back to this for a while...it can wait); and two knitting projects: my RH Light & Lofty navy-grape throw on size 15 needles and a little LB MicroSpun vanilla rib stitch scarf on size 4 needles.

Must.finish.something this weekend!

Wednesday, February 9, 2005, 11:28am:  Happy Lunar New Year! (plaque from Heaven's Angels)

Happy 47031 - Chinese New Year - Feb. 9th - Heaven's Angels

I did finally finish A crochet project! Last night I finished my Lion Brand Homespun scarf (Deco (off-white) and Corinthian (reds/oranges/greens/etc.) alternating stripes). Now I just need to finish the matching loom knitted hat.  :-)  May come in handy, as we're going from rain to wint'ry mix to snow today!

Friday, February 11, 2005, 4:23pm: Whoops, I'm a little late! Today is Thomas Edison's birthday.   What an wonderful man! And what a wonderful saying on this plaque (from Heaven's Angels)! Because of him and others, you are reading this NOW!  :-P

Sunday, February 13, 2005, 9:59pm:  A new poem. Eh. I think one of the best poems I have ever written and probably just came through me and not necessarily from me is St. Swithin's Day.

Tuesday, February 15, 2005, 5:06am: For how my Valentine's Day went, see my LiveJournal entry. :-)

In crochet news (cross-posted from my LiveJournal): I finished a pair of arm warmers/fingerless mitts for myself yesterday. They are made from TLC Amore in Plum Print (a plum/blue ombre). Now watch: no more cold weather. :-P

I bought something very extravagant: a hand-made wood Q Tunisian crochet hook (which I need for one particular pattern). It arrived yesterday. Wow, that thing could be dangerous!

I finished (last week?) my scarf and hat that match/complement Cat'r's scarf and hat set (his is in a black and reddish mix; mine in an off-white and reddish mix). I am not happy with my hat though: I should've made it on the next smaller loom. I'll make another...soon soon.

Next I want to finish a poncho I am making from Lion Brand Color Waves Purple Vista. It has a sort-of bouclé texture. Very simple: single crochet a rectangle, then join in a...well, I-don't-know-what way, I will have to look at the pattern in the magazine I have. :-D Then it will be trimmed with some LB Incredible ribbon "yarn" (I *think* I got Purple Party) for fringe. :-)

Then I've got to get going on things for Spring. I have this notion in my head I want to go to church on Easter. It would be the United Church of Christ I used to go to back in the 60's. It's still there, and I am feeling way nostalgic for it. No, not going Christian; just want to experience the Easter/new-clothes/child-like feeling again.  :-)

5:23am: Volume 3 & 4 of the Mr. Bean Animated Series arrived from amazon.com yesterday! Yay! We have the entire set now! We also now have Mr. Bean: The Whole Bean--I forget where Bunnicula found this. Maybe Circuit City? I am awaiting a copy of the 1997 movie, "Bean". I think Cat'r originally rented that for us. It was funny, but not up to the series. Still, it's Mr. Bean.  :-)   (click on the pics below to see them larger)

Friday, February 18, 2005, 10:57pm: You know I got out of most of my online groups last November because I was feeling a time crunch? But when Squeak, one of the Garden Keepers of the Garden of Friendship, passed away very unexpectedly and relatively young in January, I felt a very strong pull to be back in the Garden. Usually there is a three-month waiting period between when you left and when you can reapply for membership, but they very graciously waived that for me. After a couple days of people from the Site Review Committee coming to look over my site (and sign my guestbook!) to see if my site conformed to the Garden's rules and regulations, I was accepted back into the Garden yesterday/last evening. Yay! It will be a few days before I get a dedication section up again, as I'm not sure when I will be getting my membership plaque or other things--the lady that handles that is on leave of absence. But it's good to be back.

Sunday, February 20, 2005, 3:22am: Yes, I'm up in the deep night! But I got started on my Garden of Friendship dedication pages and didn't want to stop. :-P  So here they are. Some of it will look familiar, some will not.

Saturday, February 26, 2005, 8:59am: New things: I've added some gifts I've received from members of the Garden of Friendship here.

And Heaven's Angels made me some lovely remembrance pages for the angel dates of my father and father-in-law. The pages and tokens of remembrance are here [EDIT 2006: These pages have since been taken down, as I am no longer in that group]
