Monday, December 4, 2006, 9:19am:  Eek! If you want to vote for me this week, please use Internet Explorer! For some reason my site is not showing up on the Web Town NVE Semi-Final Page in FireFox. Thanks!  [EDIT Sept. 19, 2007: I have quit competing as of today, so the Voting Page is no longer there--thanks for all your support!]

Ho Ho HoThursday, December 7, 2006, 12:44am:  "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas/Everywhere you go..."! I have just made the beginnings of my little Christmas 2006 page, part of the ever-growing A Mouse House Christmas section. I will be adding onto it through the season and possibly beyond!

8:44am: Today is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day here in the U.S. The surprise aerial attack took place sixty-five years ago today. To read and see a bit more about it, see Bunnicula's pages on hir site: a review of a documentary film about Pearl Harbor, a copy of President Roosevelt's Day of Infamy speech, and a copy of the Declaration of War on Japan.

The survivors meet every five years to "share stories, exchange smiles, find peace and salute their fallen friends." The motto of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association is "Remember Pearl Harbor. Keep America alert."

As regards Pearl Harbor and the 9/11 terrorist attacks: "Once again, it seemed that America had been caught sleeping. Interest in Pearl Harbor and its aging survivors surged. The old soldiers are much in demand to sign autographs, walk in parades, speak to classrooms and pose for pictures. Visits to the USS Arizona Memorial are at record levels. Not that everyone sees similarities between the two attacks. 'There is no comparison,' [survivor] Everett Hyland said. 'That was terrorists killing a pile of civilians. Here, you had professional fighters versus professional fighters. Two different things.' "

I would also like to add: we should try to learn from the past and try to find forgiveness in our hearts for even the most horrible things. If you ever get a chance to see Miyazaki's film "Grave of the Fireflies", please watch it. There was suffering everywhere.
