CountryMouse's Diary

Part 84

Rainbow swirly bar

Monday, April 7, 2008, 10:33pm: I began crocheting a bathmat today. I was going to do it in either TLC Cotton Plus or Lion Brand Cotton Ease (both are cotton blends, which would resist shrinkage, dry faster, and not bleed out colours onto other items in the wash). However, the only yarn available at our local Michaels and Joann's was the LB Cotton Ease at $4.99 a skein. Not a good price.

Michaels was having a sale on Lily Sugar'n Cream 100% cotton yarn, however, at $1.19 a skein, so Bunnicula snapped up quite a few skeins for me. The colour is Lily Sugar'n Cream Twists - Natural Twists. I tried to put a .jpg here of the colour, but for some reason it wasn't working with IE. I have no idea. So anyway the yarn is a peach/tan/white colour, which will be perfect for our bathroom.

I am just doing an oblong of shell stitch. I'm using a larger hook than they recommend, as my sister said this would make the bathmat not as dense and easier for it to dry. I'll probably put a little edge of single crochet on the two ends when I'm finished.

I needed something to get me interested in working with yarn again. And this is something we need.

The Magical HouseholdSunday, April 13, 2008, 2:58am: I know I said that I was on the point of reading Axis; but instead I handed it off to Bunnicula (who has also read Spin). I am reading Keith Olbermann's Truth and Consequences at present, when I am not being distracted by dipping into knitting-related books, Scott Cunningham's The Magical Household (click the pic at left to see it MUCH larger), and others. That, BTW, is not what the cover looks like on my copy of The Magical Household. I am (re)reading parts relating to moving/changing residences--things to do when leaving a place, things to do at the new place.

AND ALSO TODAY: Happy 3rd Anniversary, Mr. Caterpillar!

Sunday, April 27, 2008, 4:33pm: Sorry I haven't been updating here much. You can see what I've been up to here at CountryMouse's Refuge, where I post at least once a day. :-)

Preparing to have oral surgery on Tuesday. Bizzy bizzy getting things done around the house. And also trying to distract myself as much as possible so I don't worry. I've been through this before--I can do it again. *knock on wood!*

I haven't actually been reading (books) very much lately; I seem to be playing Animal Crossing: Wild World a lot (although I haven't been posting about it in the AC:WW Diary), plus a new (to me) Nintendo DS game, WordJong, which is totally addictive! It's a cross between mahjong and Scrabble! I also got Brain Age 2, but that feels a little more hectic than the peaceful setting of WordJong.
