CountryMouse's Diary

Part 85

Rainbow swirly bar

Friday, May 2, 2008, 2:10am: Happy Beltane, yesterday! Sorry I missed saying anything--oop!

If you don't see me here, please always look for me at:

CountryMouse's Refuge

where I post every day. However, InsaneJournal (where I have CM's Refuge) is going to have some downtime this weekend because data is going to be moved to new servers. Also, because I don't always log on (especially during the last few days because of my surgery), the best way to follow me is to look for me at Twitter (when it's working!):

follow me at twitter

I post there via my cell phone when I am not near a computer or don't feel like turning one on. When I *am* online, I just post there via Twitter's website or the little client called twhirl.

I had my aforementioned oral surgery on Tuesday, April 29th. It went pretty well. It's not exactly comfortable yet, but it's not terrible. ::grin:: At least my lower lip no longer looks like "it was stung by a whole hive of bees" (as Cat'r put it). Heh.

Okay, now I need sleep.

Thursday, May 8, 2008, 1:04pm: This is gonna be about books. For daily stuff that has been going on, please see CountryMouse's Refuge.

The Friday Night Knitting ClubI am still reading Keith Olbermann's Truth and Consequences; but in fits and starts. I am more steadily reading The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs (click on the pic at left to see it MUCH larger). At first I thought, "Wow, this is just another Blossom Street book, but set in New York City instead of Seattle." But as I'm going along, the characters are becoming more their individual selves.

I'm also still reading, off and on: The Politics of Jesus (almost finished) and The Gospel of Inclusion (I just haven't gotten into this much yet). Bunnicula and I need to get back to listening to the audiobook version of Barack Obama's The Audacity of Hope.

Friday, May 16, 2008, 8:29am:  I'm excited, I'm a little nervous. This is what I ordered a couple nights ago from amazon.com (click to see it slightly larger):

I have been using a little Sunbeam OSKAR food processor (2-cup capacity) for...15 years? At least. I need something that will hold more (7 cups) and do a better job at grinding/shredding things even finer. Also, any time now I'm sure the motor on the OSKAR will give out. As it is, I have to process the beef I cook for my little soft-food meals in two batches.

I'm nervous because everyone in reviews talks about how SHARP the blades are on the Cuisinart and how extra careful one has to be. I think I'd better be fully awake and alert and focused when I use this! Oh, it comes with a instructional video! Oh eep! We need to get out the VCR and hook it up! We put it away because we hardly ever use it. :-/

Anyway, it's supposed to arrive on Monday, but knowing the speed of amazon.com and watching the tracking, it may show up TODAY!

Wednesday, May 21, 2008, 5:50pm: I totally wimped out. I am sending the Cuisinart (see above) back. The instructions for even opening the BOX were scary beyond belief! And I discovered in my cupboard a little food chopper attachment for my Osterizer blender! Nice new blade (I think I used it once), worked fine for what I needed it to do. :-)

What we got from amazon.com today is THIS!

So far Bunnicula and I have just weighed in and done the balance tests.  I'm not sure what B. is going to use it for, but mostly I will be using it for balance work. I need to work slowly. I'm still kinda weak from living off baby food after the oral surgery. I'm still trying to get my strength back up. I actually want to gain 2 lbs. My Body Mass Index is normal--around 22. And wow, the balance board is soooo accurate--it acts as a scale too. I'll be glad when I get stronger so I can do downhill skiing and hula hoops and things!

Saturday, May 24, 2008, 12:32am: I've been flushing out fountain pens, mostly for proper storage. But I do have Sonny's Parker 51 filled with Parker Quink Washable Blue and am using that every day. I plan on inking some other pen with some kind of brown ink. But the pen that is calling to me is my golden Parker Inflection:

This one has a medium nib, but mine has a broad italic nib. I it. ::grin:: And the ink I want to put in it again, which it shows off so well, is Private Reserve Shell Pink:

It's good to fall back in love with an old hobby.

6:58pm: Games! We got these games today:

They would've cost us around $70 (!); but we had a LOT of trade-ins, so they only cost us $15!! Yay! The two on the left are for me; the one on the right is for Bunnicula (but of course!).

I absolutely *love* THE DOG Island so far! It's soooo cute and fun! It's hard to make myself stop and do other things I need to get done! It was described somewhere as "an RPG for puppies". I can see this is NOT going to be a short game. There is going to be a lot to it!

Monday, May 26, 2008, 8:43pm: (cross-posted from CountryMouse's Refuge)

I bought a pen! (and some inks too!)

I know I know, I don't need more pens! But when I got to Swisher Pens, looking for ink, I was looking at various pen manufacturers and saw Kaweco. I thought, "Oh yeah, I wanted one of those years ago!". So I went and looked. I almost bought. At the last minute I changed my mind.

Instead I went to The Pear Tree Pen Company (which has slightly better prices for ink than Swisher does) and bought five bottles of ink: Waterman Havana Brown; and the rest J. Herbin: Vert Olive, Vert Réséda, Lie de Thé (I need more), and Ambre de Birmanie.

Then I phoned Cat'r to tell him about my ink purchases and said, "I almost bought a pen." We both went and looked at it online, at Swisher. We both oooed and aaahed. I said, "I just have to have this! I'm gonna buy it." And I did.

It's a Kaweco Sport Classic Fountain Pen in white. I got it with a medium gold-plated nib. I also bought an optional slide-on gold clip and a Monteverde fountain pen converter (in case I want to use bottled ink instead of a cartridge).

It's a cute little inexpensive pen, but it's supposed to be very durable and easy to carry around. I know lots of folks were talking it up in a positive way back a few years ago, when I was still into pens. So that's why I remembered. So yeah, I just suddenly had to have it.

Eeee! I have pen fever again!
