Golden Lining

Review

This is an crossover with Futaba-kun Change. It's a somewhat strange story. Akane, Nabiki, Shampoo and Ukyo are basically very, very nasty people. They all hate Ranma and have been using him all along. Ranma finds out and goes away, only to run into Ryoga.

Ryoga's utterly-lacking sense of direction is shown to be profitable to him and his family, and he helps Ranma out. The story involves a lot of time as Ranma-chan, and its implied that Ranma is able to accept that and live with it by the end of the story.

I think it's a pretty good story if you allow for some of the major characters behaving in a way that is quite different from the canon versions of themselves.

Chapter 1

Ranma goes into a fountain and picks up coins that people have tossed in for wishes. Ranma changes into Ranma-chan, of course. She then goes to get some ice cream. She sees Akane, Ukyo and Shampoo enter and she hides.

She then listens as they talk and finds out that they are really hate Ranma and have been using him all along. They are actually pretty vicious in their talk. Akane also reveals that she's trying to seduce Dr. Tofu. Akane also reveals that she's known about Ryoga's curse. Ukyo wants Mousse and they all figure out a plan in which Shampoo can work over Mousse some, then Ukyo fight him, winning him as her husband.

It's then revealed just how much Nabiki has also been making use of Ranma and Ranma-chan, and the three girls there each get a share of the money made. They also devise a method for getting Kuno to marry Shampoo.

They leave. Later, Ranma is sitting alone when Ryoga shows up. They talk, and Ranma tells him what he has found out.

Chapter 2

Ryouga keeps taunting Ranma until he breaks Ryoga's arm. That finally convinces Ryoga that something is really wrong with Ranma.

Ryoga and Ranma walk to Dr. Tofu's. On the way, Ranma tells Ryoga that Akane knows about his curse and teases the both of them on purpose. Ranma tells Dr. Tofu what happened and apologizes to Ryoga for breaking his arm.

Ranma leads Ryoga to Ryoga's home. Later Ranma changes to Ranma-chan so she can cry and Ryoga comforts her. Ranma-chan cries herself to sleep.

Ranma and Ryoga talk, and Ryoga tells Ranma what his family does for a business. Basically, they use their ability to get lost to wander into so-called secure facilities. They leave a calling card and often get hired by the place to plug up their security holes.

They also find out Nabiki has been searching for Ranma. Ryoga figures out that Ranma can stay as Ranma-chan and color her hair, etc, and help escape Nabiki and her spies. Later, Ryoga leaves and leaves a lot of money for Ranma-chan.

Ranma-chan decides she will eventually get her revenge on Akane and the others.

Chapter 3

Ranma-chan starts by sending Nabiki a can of coins with postage due, costing more than the value of the coins.

Reference is made to Nodoka having beaten up Genma really, really good.

Ranma-chan is now going by the name of Hibiki Yoiko and she's been adopted by their family. She also starts at a different high school. This is where the cross-over with Futaba-kun Change starts, as Yoiko/Ranma-chan enrolls in the same school that Futana and Futaba attend. (Futana is his older sister/brother).

The day before, Yoiko had gotten an apartment and found out about the school's wrestling team.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tofu has been avoiding Akane. Akane and Nabiki find out that Ranma was their at their “meeting” with Shampoo and Ukyo, and knows what is going on.

Yoiko tries to help Dr. Tofu get over his overly wild reaction to Kasumi.

Yoiko gets some used furniture. Futana tries to hit on her and ends up in a dumpster. Futana (female) ends up tricking Yoiko into going on a date with Futana (male).

Chapter 4

Akane and the other girls have a meeting. Nabiki reveals some one is snooping around her financial dealings; apparently, she has a lot of money that really should have gone to Ranma-chan. They are also going to work on getting Kuno and Shampoo together, and Mousse and Ukyo together.

Futana (male) and Yoiko go out on their date. Things go pretty well. Futana ends up showing Yoiko/Ranma-chan a display of bunches of things that Nabiki has released about her to make money.

They even agree to go on another date.

Shampoo beats up Mousse, and then Ukyo fights him, using an Amazon challenge to claim him as her husband.

Then Shampoo is “defeated” by Kuno, and gets him to marry her.

Yoiko goes on her date with Futana, and Futaba-chan is along. Futana tricks her into agreeing to wear a dress if he buys it. The date ends, though, with Ranma-chan getting a phone call.

Ukyo fights Genma and severely hurts him. He could die from blood loss. Ukyo attacks Nodoka, but has to run away when she realizes just how good Nodoka is with her katana.

She takes Genma to Dr. Tofu. Genma has a rare blood type, and it's going to be hard to find enough blood to keep him alive.

It turns out Futana, Futaba-chan and their father have the same blood type and are willing to help. Then it turns out the two families get along. Kasumi has a great interest in Futaba-chan's father's female aspect (an idol). The parents are told about what Akane and the other girls said. Genma is saved. Futana wants to court Ranma-chan.

Chapter 6

Nabiki gets upset when the money she had put back from using Ranma and Ranma-chan disappears. Nabiki then gets a note that Ranma-chan now has an official new agent and Nabiki won't be able to make money off her any more. Kasumi runs away and elopes with Dr. Tofu.

Ranma gets hold of a special serum, and it's injected into Mousse, Shampoo and Akane. The serum Shampoo is given prevents her from having sex as a human and achieving orgasm; the only way she can have pleasure is in cat form. The serum given Akane causes her to change into a man whenever she is exposed to hot water or has strong emotions. The serum given Mousse causes him to remain in duck form most of the time. Ukyo is pregnant, but she and Mousse won't be having any more sexual relations for a while.

Ranma has told the three that there is an antidote, but there actually isn't. The effects will wear off in time. Ramna wants Shampoo to promise that neither she nor Cologne nor the Amazons will try to take revenge on Ranma for what happened to her. He gets her to promise, but she gets mad and changes into a cat when she has strong emotions.

Akane apologizes to Ranma for how she has treated him. Ukyo makes peace with Ranma.

Later, Futana and Ranma get married. They basically take turns as to who is male and who is female.
