A One-Half Semester

Review

This is a really cute story. Two fraternity boys end up turning into Ranma and Shampoo. The means is magical (suspension of disbelief time, of course), but what happens and how they learn to deal with it is really good.

It's really nice how the author dealt with the two coming to terms with their changes and just how deep the love Shampoo has for Ranma. It's also interesting how the author deals with the problem of Shampoo's becoming a cat and how Ranma reacts to that.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable story, well worth reading.

Synopsis

The story concerns two boys in a fraternity who plan to attend a party thrown by the school's Riding Club. They decide to dress up as Ranma (Tim) and Shampoo (Richard), since Ranma ½ was their favorite Japanese anime series.

Richard, with the help of a corset, wig and makeup, looks vaguely like Shampoo, and he and Tim go to the party. At the party, though, two girls are thrown out for some reason and one of them makes various threats and throws a sphere into the room which explodes near the two boys.

The girl had said that the people were all "hollow imitations of real human beings," and that they should try to "be real for a change."

They leave the party by jumping out a second-floor window and neither is hurt. To avoid the police who were coming they ran along the top of a fence and then both end up jumping from roof to roof of various houses to get back to their room.

When they get back to the room they start to wonder how they did all that running and jumping. Things get stranger when Richard starts to talk like Shampoo. It turns out that they physically and mostly mentally have become the characters. Since Shampoo is in love with Ranma then end up actually having sex.

They can now speak Japanese and Chinese but have some trouble understanding English, but both decide they will work hard together to adapt to their new situation. It also turns out that Tim, now Ranma, possesses Ranma's curse and turns female when hit by cold water. Shampoo loves Ranma, boy-type or girl-type, so they now end up having female-female sex.

Everything ends up working ok for them as they take on their new lives and personalities permanently.
