CountryMouse's Diary

Part 47

Rainbow swirly bar

Wednesday, December 1, 2004: It's December !! It's time to Deck the Halls !!  Well, I need to deck the front/splash page. :-P  I have everything else changed. I *do* have a little Christmas page--it's Lilly at Yuletide. I also need to get the tree and other decorations put up here at home, in our apartment. :-)  There are lights up already out around the neighbourhood! I LOOOOOVE Christmas lights! When it gets near the 25th, Cat'r will take us riding one night to look at lights. That's always a fun thing to do. :-)

It feels very strange not to be in my online groups anymore. It feels freeing (more time!), but at the same time lonely. I burned a copy of The Mouse House to CD before I removed all the sections to do with The Garden of Friendship, Women of Strength and Inner Beauty, Heaven's Angels, and Harmony of Souls. They are all wonderful groups, in case you are ever wanting to join a group and get involved with lots of great folks and fun activities.

Anyway, many links to go back and fix; so if something isn't working properly in this year's diary entries, it *will* be--just give me a little time. :-)

I need to figure out this pattern for a star-shaped baby afghan. I am not reading it right, or something is written in a convoluted way that I need to rearrange in my head. I have the first two rounds figured out and done in some scrap yarn. If I sit in front of the monitor and look at the photo while reading the pattern and doing the work, I *think* I will be able to figure it out! I need to be able to do this, as a friend has asked me to do a combination christening/wiccaning baby shawl for her child for this month. When I told her about the star-shaped one, she felt *that* would be perfect! I am planning on doing it in all-white, of course, with TLC Baby yarn, a very soft sport weight yarn. Click on the mousie at right to see her larger!

Oooooo, Cat'r took me shoppin' in the rain last night to...yes, again...Michael's! They are still having Lion Brand Homespun on sale. Also Patons Allure and Cha Cha. I got some of all of those. There are others on sale, but I don't care for Patons Twister or Divine or Bernat Boa. So I bought enough Homespun to make a granny square poncho, some Homespun to make a funky sideways rectangular poncho, some Caron Simply Soft (VIOLET) to make a bed cape, and lots of fun yarn for future as-yet-unplanned-for trimming. Oh yeah, and a couple booklets on baby things to crochet. At that point I hadn't talked to my friend about her preferences for a christening shawl/blanket and had NO idea what to do. I have no experience whatsoever in making baby items. Well, wait. I think I did some stamped cross stitch bibs for my best friend way back in the 60s.  :-P

Okay, so today is a crochet day! (I hope!) It's sunny, so that means I will have lots of good light to work with. After I figure out this star afghan thingumee, then I need to get back to the lap robe I am making in navy (Red Heart Plush yarn with a...J? I think..hook). Easier to see stitches in dark yarn in good daylight. :-)

11:28am: Just added some crochet links to My Needlework index page.

Thursday, December 2, 2004, 3:49pm: I'm staying in Heaven's Angels! Guardian Angel DeDe told me of a cloud that I could be on that would be less demanding, time-wise, than the one I was on before. I really didn't want to leave them anyway. So now I won't be group-less at this festive time of year.  :-)  :-)  [Sept. 2005: I have left Heaven's Angels. I am staying in just one group, the Garden of Friendship (which I rejoined in February 2005)]

Yes, I know I still have an autumnal splash page. But I have an excuse. ::grin:: I have been busy: I crocheted a hat yesterday afternoon. Today, with great help from skamamawa in the LJ Crochet Community, I figured out how to do that star-shaped baby afghan that I will be doing as a christening/wiccaning shawl for a friend! Yay!!!  :-)

Also, my computer got overrun with adware and spyware, so that took a couple hours to get everything cleaned off! OOF!

Need (late) lunch!

9:24pm: Now there's a nice wintry splash page/entranceway.  :-)   The Happy Fall! page has gone to the Holiday section.

There are still a lot of broken links re: online groups I was in. I made a start on editing, but there is much more to do.

Friday, December 3, 2004, 3:38pm: New photos up in the Needlework section!  :-)  Currently I am working on Monk's lap robe and A.'s star-shaped baby wiccaning/christening shawl. Lots more plans in the wings (and yarn all OVER the place!).  :-)

10:59pm: In a day or so I will be reformatting my hard drive. I may be out-of-reach, email-wise for a day or so. Tonight I have been paring things down, deleting a lot of stuff so that I can clearly see what I want to back up onto CDs tomorrow. The spyware/adware/possible virus stuff has gotten out of hand, and Cat'r says the only way to fix the various problems (that have gotten worse and more numerous) is to reformat and do a fresh installation of Windows XP.

Saturday, December 4, 2004, 2:06pm: Made this, this morning.

7:38pm: I have a new poem up, very seasonal.  :-)

Monday, December 6, 2004, 7:19am: Today is St. Nicholas' Day! Here is what I've been doing about Christmas decorations.

And here is a crochet update.

8:56am: Atlas! (as my uncle used to say) A new quiz! This is for all you yarn lovers out there.   Heh, I don't/can't even *use* wool--allergies!

Wednesday, December 8, 2004, 11:36am: (cross-posted from my LiveJournal)

Cat'r has a bad cold, and I guess I picked up some of it. :-/

So I am going to do the minimum for the next few days, drink a lot of fluids, rest a LOT. I can't take cold medications, so I just need to let my body do its own healing thing.

That means that I might not get some crochet Christmas presents done and delivered by the 25th. Oh well, I'll just explain.

I do have to finish the star-shaped baby afghan wiccaning/christening thingee by the 15th though. They will just have to take it directly to the washing machine, do not pass GO, do not collect $200.

Sunday, December 12, 2004, 8:19pm: New photos in the Needlework section. I did a "mistake" shawl that is still useable; and I completed the star-shaped baby afghan. I need more rest. Still cold-y. :-/

P.S. I've taken photos of our new little Christmas tree, but I won't be putting them up yet. I am not working on my web pages any more than necessary because my computer is playing up really badly due to the adware/spyware etc. and the need to reformat the hard drive. I'm just waiting a few more days until Cat'r and I both feel weller and can do it. I still need to back things up.

10:58pm: I have been totally remiss in keeping things updated on my Tamagotchi Connection! If you recall (or maybe you don't), his name is Einar. He eventually reached maturity and is now a (new-fangled) maskutchi. Here are his current pics and stats.

Monday, December 13, 2004, 5:58pm: There is now a Christmas section! I can't hear the music on my own computer :-/  (I think I need to check QuickTime and/or Windows Media Player...or my browsers), but I'm hoping everything is okay. I will be adding some gifts and adoptions as time goes along. :-)

Wednesday, December 29, 2004, 6:42am:  Hola, everyone! We had to reformat my hard drive (it was totally overrun with adware and spyware, beyond the help of Ad-Aware and Spybot: Search and Destroy); then I had to wait for my older version of FrontPage98 to make its way back from ChiChi's place (which took almost two weeks! good ole USPS) before I could reinstall FrontPage 2002. We are still waiting for the FrontPage extensions to show up on our new web hosting service. This could take up to three hours, Cat'r says.

Here's the deal: I am currently having my second cold of the *month*. I am not feeling well, so I'm not up to doing any updates. I have a lot of needlework photos to put up. I have pics of the Holiday Snowstorm of 2004 to put in the Snow Pictures section, and I have other photos too (Christmas, etc.). And there are *still* links in CM's Diary that need fixing.

If you are waiting for an email from me, please be patient. If I don't get around to posting here, please come over to my LiveJournal ([EDIT: now CountryMouse's Refuge--there's a BIG BUTTON leading there on my Diary Index page too!]) to see what's up, and also to see what's been happening during this time between the 13th and today. Stuff about yarn, stuff about car, stuff about stuff.  :-)

Now where are those tissues...?

4:47pm: I just re-uploaded my entire site, now with the FrontPage extensions. I *think* everything is okay; but please please PLEASE if you find any pictures or backgrounds missing (I know there are some links I still need to fix, but that's not FrontPage's fault), email me or sign my guestbook, telling me what is wrong and where. Thanks in advance!

Friday, December 31, 2004, 6:41pm: It's almost that time! Can you believe 2004 is almost over?! It's also ChiChi's birthday! Happy Birthday, ChiChi!!!

Celebrate the New Year

There are a couple new things on the Christmas page, if you would like to go look. :-)

Public Service Announcement for all you knitters and crocheters: Today and tomorrow Stitch Diva is donating all proceeds from pattern sales to the International Red Cross to help the tsunami victims. Go. Buy.
