Thursday, January 3, 2008, 6:47pm: I just finished Heat Stroke, the second book inCelebrity Scarves 2 Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series. Wow, fast-paced and riveting! Loved it! I'm going to start the next one, Chill Factor, later this evening.

I was going to start knitting these Victorian wristlets right about now; but while I was waiting for the yarn to arrive from YarnMarket (they are always very fast in shipping out orders, but I placed my order over the New Year's Eve holiday weekend, so the delay was because of UPS), I started a scarf with a cable running down the middle, to get myself used to knitting cables. It's Katherine Heigl's scarf from the book Celebrity Scarves 2: Hollywood Knits for Breast Cancer Research (click on the pic at right to see it larger). I may just continue with the scarf until I've finished that, before I start the wristlets; or I may decide I just don't want to wait and go ahead with the wristlets. We shall see.   :-)

Friday, January 4, 2008, 8:30am: Look what I joined this morning! Why not join us? The link to my page there is on the Diary Index page. This graphic goes to the Blog 365 main page.

5:11pm: This is where I come when I get confused by all those fancy blogs and such. You may remember I tried Grey Matter and Movable Type many years ago. I hated them. I came back to FrontPage and the non-cool-looking diary this is. I just hate having to work with code or anything that gets in the way of thinking about content.

The only problem is: there is no RSS feed. No one can comment. There is no community with this. I often feel I am writing into a void. I like LiveJournal a LOT, but it is now owned by a Russian media company. I don't know how I feel about that. Things may change or they may not.

I started a WordPress blog today, but I am not even going to show you that yet because it is tooo confusing for me. I have no idea even how to customize it.

All I really want to do is backup/archive my LiveJournal. I downloaded a program today to do that, but it's not working right. If I could get my LiveJournal archived, then I could decide if I want to go somewhere else. But where? There is a feeling of community there that I have not seen anywhere else. Although it's starting to feel sorta that way at the Blog 365 site. I just don't know what to do. I probably need sleep. I have been up since about 3am this morning. I meant to go back to bed and get more sleep, but I joined the Blog 365 thing, then started fiddling with my various journals/blogs/etc. Time got away from me.

If anyone has any helpful words of wisdom, please email me at ctrymaus@gmail.com

Surprised this is not one of the usual chipper posts you read here? I probably should've posted in my LiveJournal. Oh well. I think I'll cross-post it there.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008, 12:09am: There are going to be a LOT of broken links in these CM Diary pages for a while until I get things fixed. I have moved my entire LiveJournal over to a new home: InsaneJournal. This is because of major censorship problems and heavy Big Brother tactics lurking everywhere at LiveJournal. I have "locked" my entire LiveJournal to Friends-Only, so that's why the links won't work for you anymore, unless you happen to have a LiveJournal account and are on my Friends List. But here is where I am now, my new home--come visit me!

Since January 2008 - Incorporating all my LiveJournal archives

11:45am: So far I have gone back through all of 2007 in these CM's Diary pages to fix all the links leading to my LiveJournal, so they now go to the correct places in CountryMouse's Refuge. Slow but steady. :-)

Thursday, January 10, 2008, 5:19pm: I've been hearing about Twitter off and on for the last week or so. I caved in today and signed up. ::grin:: You can follow me on my Diary Index page. Heh.

Saturday, January 12, 2008, 7:15am: I just finished Chill Factor--wow, Rachel Caine continues to write fast-paced exciting books! My next read will be the next book in the Weather Warden series, Windfall. I just gotta see what happens next!

Monday, January 14, 2008, 3:32pm: I think I've found all the LiveJournal links in CM's Diary and corrected those, so that they lead to the archives now at CountryMouse's Refuge. There may be links in other parts of The Mouse House site I have not found yet. I'll be going through the entire site at some point.

Next I will probably go through the archives themselves and make corrections, so that links lead to places within the archives at InsaneJournal and not back to LiveJournal.

Monday, January 21, 2008, 5:13pm: I just finished reading Rachel Caine's Windfall, the fourth book in her Weather Warden series. These books leave me exhausted, they are so intense! But I can't wait to start the next one, Firestorm!

Wednesday, January 23, 2008, 7:14pm: Woohoo! I received my copy of a neat newEndless Ocean Nintendo Wii game today! It's called "Endless Ocean" (click the pic at right to see it larger). It is an open-ended game, very relaxing, and fun. You dive and explore the ocean, getting familiar with various species of fish and other sea creatures. Sometimes you are given tasks that you can decide to do or not. It's all very laid back. :-)  Oh, and you CAN'T DIE. :-) It has a lovely New Age-type soundtrack; but you can use your own MP3s via an SD card if you wish.

I saw in a review somewhere that this game is somewhere between Animal Crossing and Pokemon Snap. I'd say it's more relaxing than Pokemon Snap, because in PS you often have a limited amount of time to get a good photo of the creature you are aiming at! In EO, you have a camera attached to your gear, so that when you "befriend" and feed any fish, it automatically takes the picture for you. As to Animal Crossing, the comparison is apt in that it's very open-ended: you can decide to do (or not do) what you want, when you want to.

Today I explored and "mapped" The Coral Forest for the head of the foundation that we work for. I also got to know (and pet!) the three penguins we now have on board our boat. I've also identified, fed, and "petted" several species of fish--and a manta ray! It's just such a beautiful game! There is a lot more to it, actually. I haven't looked at the manual yet--the in-game tutorial is great. I know I'm going to enjoy playing this for some time!

P.S. Don't forget to check CountryMouse's Refuge (my InsaneJournal) for other things that are going on!

Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:28pm: More "Endless Ocean" rambling in my InsaneJournal. AND: I've made my first voice post via Utterz. It's here, in my Blogger blog.

What I am probably going to do is put a widget thingumee on the Diary Index page so that my Utterz show up there. This whole voice-posting thing is a lead-up to if/when we might move in June or so. There might be a day or so or more when I cannot post here or anywhere via an Internet connection. The two ways (or maybe more, if I find more...but just this for now) that I will be able to stay connected will be via Twitter (text messaging from my cell phone) and via Utterz (also using only my cell phone, to one of several blogs I have that Utterz has connections to). I need to be able to blog everyday because I'm involved in the Blog 365 challenge.
