CountryMouse's Diary

Part 90

Rainbow swirly bar

Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 6:03pm: Yesterday early voting began in Ohio! And today Cat'r, Bunnicula, and I all got our absentee ballots in the mail. We've all voted now. Tomorrow Cat'r will take his ballot to the post office down in his work town; and Bunnicula will take his and mine downtown to the Board of Elections.

Make sure you're registered to vote! And then DO vote! If you vote early (whoever you're voting for), you'll help alleviate the stress at the polls on November 4th. Also you won't have to worry if you'll get to the polls in time or anything else.

Friday, October 3, 2008, 7:29pm: (cross-posted from CountryMouse's Refuge)

I had my yearly mammogram today + ultrasound on the right side.

Even though I had a core needle biopsy on the right side (the non-irradiated side) 2-1/4 years ago and the results were benign, the radiologist who did the procedure did not leave a marker behind.

My mammogram shows the same area looking pretty much the same as last year; but the ultrasound is showing the area as looking suspicious. The radiologist is recommending my breast surgeon get a biopsy (again), just to be sure.

She will go in (core needle biopsy again) and get a good sample and leave a marker. That will be useful in case anything ever looks suspicious there again; or it will mark the place that needs to be dealt with if it's not benign.

I'll be phoning Monday to set up an appointment. I don't want to do this for 2 or 3 weeks, which is okay with my surgeon. I want to get stuff done around the house, cleaning, laundry, etc.

I'll let you know when my appointment is; but I could use some thoughts and prayers now anyway, if you don't mind.

Saturday, October 4, 2008, 10:06pm: I've got a lot of time-sensitive things on my webpages that I am going to try to fix soon.

I changed all the calendars to "perpetual" ones, that will either change each month on their own (design-wise) or have a design that works for all seasons, so that *I* don't have to change them each month anymore.

I don't want to take down my Obama banners and such at this point, although after November 4th, they will be redundant and/or obsolete.

My pink house on the main site index page will have to be changed four times a year.

I would like to try to keep the Now Reading picture on the Diary Index page current. However, I may redo that part of the page and take that off.

Most of all, if I can't get to doing things on my site much, please always keep checking

CountryMouse's Refuge

because I post there every day. If I can't get to my desktop computer (which I use for working on my web pages), I can always use my little Asus Eee computer (a little "netbook") to post to CountryMouse's Refuge. And barring *that*, I can twitter from my cell phone. Each day's "tweets" are shipped to CM's Refuge each night at 11pm. In other words, I will try to stay in touch no matter what is going on. Or Cat'r will post in my stead.

Monday, October 6, 2008, 7am: The McCain campaign probably didn't think the Obama campaign had the stomach for this or the guts to do it. But here it comes. Palin forced it.

(cross-posted from CountryMouse's Refuge)

They brought it on themselves--it's High Noon

When Sarah Palin decided (well, the McCain campaign decided) to do the "guilt by association" smear tactic against Barack Obama and said, "the heels are on, the gloves are off", she/they forced the Obama camp's hand.

It's gonna be High Noon. Seriously.

At noon Eastern today the Obama campaign will unveil a 13-minute documentary on the "Keating Five" scandal, in which Senator John McCain played a central role. This will not be a smear. This is truth, well-known by all and sundry: the savings and loan scandal of the late 80's and early 90's that caused Charles Keating to go to jail for fraud and Senator McCain to be formally reprimanded by the bipartisan Senate Ethics Committee. This scandal had so very much to do with deregulation and what has brought us to the economic state we are in now.

Here is the link: Keating Economics: John McCain and The Making of a Financial Crisis. Be ready at noon! And tell everyone you know!

McCain can in no way dodge this!

Monday, October 13, 2008, 11:16am: ::whew!:: I've finally gotten all the books that I've read over the years (that I have on my paper list) up on my Shelfari page. Some of the covers don't match what I have/have had; and sometimes Shelfari doesn't have the cover art at all (witness The Book of Stillmeadow). However, I now have a widget on the Diary Index page that is a little bookshelf showing what I am reading now. I really need to finish some of those books *some*day! A little more explanation:

(posted earlier this morning at CountryMouse's Refuge)

"I've been working on my bookshelf at Shelfari this morning. I just have 2006-the present to put in now.

"I stopped writing down/keeping a list of books I had read some time in 2003 (did I already say this in an earlier post?). I gradually started keeping track online in CountryMouse's Diary and possibly in my LiveJournal (which is now all archived here on InsaneJournal, my forever-home). I tried to recreate, on paper, what I had read during that time of not-writing-down between 2004 and 2008.

"It *looks* like I read almost *nothing* in 2004, but I just wasn't keeping track. I've usually got at least one book going...at present way too many! :-P "

I'll probably be adding other books to my Books-I've-Read section of Shelfari as I see books around the house that I've read but didn't write down during that period of not-keeping-a-list.

On a side note: I've redone, a bit, the Diary Index page. Once Election Day is past, I'll be taking more things off that page. Just trying to make it a tiny bit less cluttered.

Undead and UnappreciatedTuesday, October 14, 2008, 1:39pm: I just finished reading the third book, Undead and Unappreciated (click pic at left to see it much larger), in the Queen Betsy series. These vampire books are (so far) lighthearted, sexy, smart, and fun. I am told they get "darker" later in the series. You can check out my little "Now Reading" bookshelf on the Diary Index page to see what I am (still) reading right now (some books I just can't seem to finish while I hurry to pick up the next Queen Betsy book ::grin::); and you can see my entire bookshelf at Shelfari.

Sunday, October 19, 2008, 9:51am: I *finally* finished reading The Politics of Jesus! I got bogged down in the section about political conservatism in U.S. history and found it *very* depressing. I just had to leave the book alone for quite some time. When I went back to this book again a few days ago, I finished that section and moved on into liberalism, where things picked up for me. :-)  Here is my review that I wrote just this morning for Shelfari:

"The title of this book, in full, is The Politics of Jesus: Rediscovering the True Revolutionary Nature of Jesus’ Teachings and How They Have Been Corrupted. This should tell you at the outset that this book is not for everyone. This book takes a fresh look to Jesus’ life and ministry and how it relates to today’s politics in America.

"The book carries you through the history of his nation and his people that shaped him, how he became 'meek and mild', what he *really* taught and who his anger was directed at (and why the political and religious leaders of his time and place feared and hated him), and how this relates to the politics of the United States, past and present. The author finally concludes in telling us how we can get our nation back on the right track.

"It helps if you are a Christian, reading this, but you don’t have to be. It also would’ve been better if I had done this review earlier than just two weeks before the U.S.’s  2008 Presidential Election. This book was published in 2006, and it reflects the mindset of that time. We are on the cusp of something else, possibly  on the brink of something new, right now.

"This book is a very good book, although very meaty and not an easy read. My only complaint is that the author has the habit of telling you things in triplicate, making *sure* you understand what he’s saying. Other than that, *good stuff* and highly recommended!"

Thursday, October 23, 2008, 4:27pm: Finally! I've gotten caught up in putting up my Canon photos! Begin here. If you find *any* broken/not-there images, please please email me about it or leave an entry in my guestbook. I had a little trouble with such a massive upload.

Thursday, October 30, 2008, 5:11pm: Yes! Again! B9! B9! B9! (see here)

(cross-posted from CountryMouse's Refuge):

I just got the news of my biopsy results! I'm okay! It's normal/benign/etc.!

My doc said she was going to "clean that all out" and leave a marker behind so that "they can't yell at us again". ::grin::  In other words, if something weird shows on a mammogram and/or ultrasound in that area again, she can say, "I've been in there and I know what that is."

I still can't believe it...!

I'll be seeing her tomorrow to have the outer dressing taken off. She'll probably tell me then when I should see her again. :-)

Thank you ALL for all your good thoughts and prayers! I could feel you all buoying me up! :-)

Friday, October 31, 2008, 3:54pm: First of all: Happy Samhain!

Second: I needed to go back to my surgeon's office today to have the outer dressing taken off (see above). Everyone was dressed up for Halloween. Here are photos!
