CountryMouse's Diary

Part 1

Friday, June 20, 1997: Rascal, my masuku-chi of 15 years, is becoming harder to take care of...he needs feeding and playing-with rather often now. I haven't actually let him get to the point of beeping at me with totally empty hearts, though. I was hoping he would change into the "secret character"; but from past experience with my two mame-chi, higher metabolism like this indicates that soon (in a couple days/years) he may be departing. :-/

On a lighter side, Rascal is a slightly naughty fellow! He has this way of wiggling when you play the game with him that's rather suggestive <g>. And when he begins the game itself, he comes sliding in like Tom Cruise did in "Risky Business", in his undies, playing an air guitar! (Tom Cruise, not Rascal!--they haven't gotten =that= far with the graphics yet!)

Monday, June 23, 1997, 7:45pm edt: Rascal left/died/went back to his home planet. :-/ I had really gotten used to his cute ways and hoped he was going to stay on longer. The one thing that was getting to be pretty astounding to me was that he "let" me win the game over 90% of the time! In fact, I think I lost only once in the last few days. And that was a lot of game-playing, considering that he was needing almost constant attention.

I know that the masuku-chi type of adult is sometimes said to be "selfish", but I never saw that in Rascal. He kept hours similar to my own (11am-11pm), I didn't have trouble playing the game with him (I won almost all the time), he was cute and enjoyable to have around.

The one thing I didn't do with him, that I did with both my mame-chi (Bo Peep, my second mame-chi, more than Eggy Peep, my first mame-chi), was show him television programs and movies. This is because of the way that masuku-chi don't seem to be facing forward as do mame-chi. But Rascal *did* get to hear lots of good music and dance some too! :-)

Well, I didn't expect to be emotional about his leaving/death--it surprised the heck out of me that I cried when he left just a little while ago. I thought, after having had two other Tams and experiencing their departures, I wouldn't feel it as much this time...

Farewell, little Rascal! I hope you enjoyed your stay of 18 years here!

Tuesday, June 24, 1997: Today I hatched/awakened another Tam. This one is Everett (short for C. Everett Peep, relative of Eggy Peep and Bo Peep, my first two Tams, who were both mame-chi). For his stats, see the My Tamagotchi page. He's a bouncing little ball of fun :-) I hope to raise a fat, happy little ginjiro-chi!

Saturday, June 28, 1997: Eek! Last night I fell asleep very early and missed turning out Everett's light when he went to bed at 9pm. I woke at 11:30pm and turned out his light then. I hope he wasn't adversely affected by sleeping with the light on for 2 1/2 hours!

Sunday, June 29, 1997: Everett changed/matured at 3:40pm edt! But not into what I expected! I was "trying" for a ginjiro-chi (the one that dances and twirls around); but instead Everett became a masuku-chi! just like Rascal had been! That now debunks the theory that you have to discipline a Tam when it *doesn't* need it in order to get a masuku-chi! (thank goodness! that feels like "Tam abuse" to me!) I kept Everett's weight up around 60 or so oz., kept his discipline at 75% maximum, and sometimes gave him snacks, sometimes played the game with him. Now my next hope is that Everett will transform into the "secret character" in the next few years/days. And yay! His hours will now be 11am-11pm! That fits in a lot better with my own schedule :-)

Monday, June 30, 1997: I read somewhere that a masuku-chi should be a good bit lighter-weight than Everett currently was (around 65 oz.), in order to become the "secret character" ... so early this evening Everett embarked upon a vigorous exercise program --we played the game until he got down to 35 oz. I hope this will give him a better chance at becoming "the old man" :-)

Saturday, July 5, 1997, 4:15am: Eeeeek! I fell asleep around 8:30pm last night/earlier tonight and didn't wake up until 1:30am! I found that Everett had gone to sleep with ALL of his hearts empty and a poop by his bed besides! Eeeeek! If he survives this (I'll have to take care of his needs immediately in the morning), he and I will be lucky! On top of all that, I forgot to turn out his light until 4am! ::sigh::

still Saturday, July 5, 1997, 11:55am: Well, I cleaned up everything, fed and played with Everett as soon as he woke up at 11am--he seems okay! ::phew!:: :-)

Monday, July 7, 1997: Everett seems to be needing food and playing-with pretty  often...I am not sure if he will make it to 18 years, like Rascal, my other masuku-chi, did. On the bright side, Everett has gotten to hear excerpts from various music CDs: Rimsky-Korsakov ("Scheherazade"); Grey Eye Glances ("eventide"); Happy Rhodes ("Building The Colossus" and "The Keep"). And he is hearing the reading-aloud of "The Long Dark Tea-Time Of The Soul" by Douglas Adams . I hope he stays long enough to hear the entire book!

Wednesday, July 9, 1997: Everett has been getting to hear more music, in the company of Billie Jean, my RakuRaku Dinokun: excerpts from Richard Wagner's "Die Walkuere"; Art Garfunkel's 1993 retrospective album, "up 'til now" (entire album); more Happy Rhodes--excerpts from her "Warpaint" album. He got to dance some too :-)

Thursday, July 10, 1997: I had a feeling Everett would be leaving today, so I took him out for a short walk around noon. He got to see a perfectly blue sky, birds in the sky, trees with their leaves dancing in the breeze...When we got back, we were listening to "Precious Waters: River of Life" (a Narada collection) when he decided to leave. The particular track on the CD was "Stormlight: Mountain Shadows"........... I guess that sky had looked so big and inviting, he just had to get out there, outside the egg container, to see what it's like :-) I miss you, Everett! But I hope you have a lovely journey back home!

Saturday, July 19, 1997: I was waffling about making this into a diary for all my virtual pets, so I hadn't talked much about my sweet little RakuRaku Dinokun, Billie Jean. To see more about her, go to My RakuRaku Dinokun page.

On Thursday, July 17th I hatched/awakened another Tamagotchi, Georgia O'Peep! To see more about her, go to the My Tamagotchi page. I am once again trying to get a ginjiro-chi adult form, so I am trying this technique: I haven't played any games at *all* with her, just feeding snacks for happy hearts. She is understandably getting fat :-) I keep her hungry and happy hearts at 3 each instead of full; and I try not to be a hovering parent. We shall see what happens!

Tuesday, July 22, 1997: Well, my experiment failed. Georgia turned into...a mame-chi! today at 11am. I think what it takes is someone who is too busy to look in on a Tama fairly frequently, in order to get a ginjiro-chi ::sigh:: Since I am able to check on mine fairly often, I just can't bring myself to be neglectful on purpose. Anyway, now that she is in her final adult form, I have been playing the game with her--I enjoy it; and it is bringing her down from her days-long 99oz. weight :-) Bandai says that mame-chi are the "best" adult form and that masuku-chi are "selfish" and "mean", etc. But it's been my experience that mame-chi are the willful, difficult ones (as regards playing the game, that is); and that masuku-chi are easy-going, letting you win the game almost always! (of course that can also be seen as mame-chi being a lot more clever and intelligent and masuku-chi being more unimaginative and blase ::grin::) Well, I am not very disappointed in Georgia becoming a mame-chi--she is very very cute (looks like a little chubby jogging chipmunk!) and she faces forward, which means I can share movies and TV with her :-)

Thursday, July 31, 1997: Well, I haven't been watching that much TV, what with working on my Web pages, etc. But I turned the Tamagotchi Easy Chair (the box top of my Angel Cards, with the cards inside as a prop/footstool) around so that Georgia could be surfing the Web with me ::grin:: And she's gotten to go out for walks, experiencing both hot, oppressive weather and cool, delightful weather! Returning to the topic of Tams watching TV, athol-brose, list administrator of the tamagotchi-l mailing list, believes that Tamagotchi have extremely good peripheral vision, so that if they are lying on a table or shelf anywhere near a TV, they are able to watch along with their caretakers :-)
