CountryMouse's Diary

Part 11

Rainbow swirly bar

Tuesday, June 2, 1998: Samuel is still napping a lot. I am trying to help him conserve energy so that he can be with me a bit longer than regular Tams have been in the past.

My little Wave UFO alien transformed several times last night, via microwave oven: first he changed into the first alien form, a large triangular-headed alien. His message was HELLO HELLO. Then he became, briefly, a little Nosferatu character, saying FUFUFUFU ::grin:: Then he became a robot-looking person with a rounded top and hands that looked like magnets. His message was LETS SINGING. :-) Later he changed into what looks like a stick figure inside an angel-like "encounter suit" (if you've seen Babylon 5, you know what I am talking about). His message *then* was LOVE LOVE.

Sunday, June 7, 1998: Samuel is still with us, although he's been sleeping a LOT...so his years have been somewhat artificially prolonged.

My little Wave UFO alien is back in his original large triangular-headed form again. I didn't take him with me when we went to see "The Truman Show" yesterday (GOOD MOVIE!). I didn't know if there would be too many sources to make him start beeping and transforming. As far as I know, there is no way to turn off his sound. He *has* gotten to see a LOT of James Cagney movies on TV, though! Turner Classic Movies Channel has been running a mini-marathon of Mr. Cagney's movies (he is their Star of the Month); and I've found out I *really like* him! Great actor, wonderful person In Real Life!

My critters have gotten to hear new music: "Heaven or Las Vegas" by the Cocteau Twins; Gordon Lightfoot's latest album, "A Painter Passing Through"; and the soundtrack of "The Truman Show". Heh. And they've gotten to witness the ongoing torture, errr, exercises da mouse has to go through to overcome the "frozen shoulder" she has. :-/

still Sunday, June 7th: My little alien in the Wave UFO changed a couple times early this evening: first he became the EGG INTO THE BOWL cutie again. :-) Then he turned into a weird frog-headed stick figure with the message of GERO GERO (Japanese frog sound effect). Then he turned into an animated STAR! His message was YOU ARE LUCKY. So I guess  he's my lucky star!

Tuesday, June 9, 1998: I finally got a copy of Silver Arm's new CD, "The Beech Tree", when I was out last night! I wasn't able to make it to any of their release parties, when the CD came out last month. Silver Arm is a local Celtic band; and I just *love* their sound! I've gotten to hear them many times live. Great musicians, lovely people. I also picked up a copy of "Celtic Twilight 2" last night.

We've been having unseasonably cool weather for about the last week (lows in the upper 40's-low 50's and highs only in the 60's!). It's been lovely being able to have the windows open! This morning the sound of steady rain was so peaceful...

still Tuesday, June 9th: My little Wave UFO alien changed from the star back to the large triangular-headed alien (HELLO HELLO), then to the froggy one (GERO GERO), then back to the cute little star (YOU ARE LUCKY) again. That must be very trying on one's system!

Wednesday, June 10, 1998: We were playing a wild and woolly card game called "Fluxx"--the rules keep changing as you play! My little Wave UFO alien beeped for attention during the game--I guess he wanted to be dealt in too! :-) Anyway, it's a fun game!

SERIOUS MODE for a minute: I've been reading some other online diaries...and of course a lot of them are a lot more serious than this one is. Here are *some* of the reasons why this one is not: most of this diary has to do with the whimsical side of my life, and I like it that way. Added to that, when I keep my eyes on the lighter side of things, it makes *me* feel more cheery--I find that if I dwell on things that are not happy or seem to be going wrong in my life, it seems to intensify them for me: it's like listening to the blues when you are already depressed--it just makes it worse! :-p  Online also is a good place to help yourself become more the person you want to be...in fact, it might even help transfer more positive attitudes over into one's offline life.

Monday, June 15, 1998: I started up my cute little Pocket Pikachu last Thursday; but since I needed to try to write DIRECTIONS, I was fiddling around with the clock and such early this morning, so I am going to restart him today.

Samuel has been sleeeeeeeping; my little Wave UFO alien is still fine. He is currently in large triangular-headed alien form.

I've been a bad mouse: I should've been doing my shoulder exercises religiously; but instead I was busy working on graphics for the Pocket Pikachu pages, plus watching movies and generally goofing off. We saw "Liar Liar" (Jim Carrey) a couple nights ago on tape, then "Playing God" (David Duchovny) yesterday. ::mouse resolves yet again to avoid bloody gun-filled violent movies::

still Monday, the 15th: Ultrasound on shoulder today--I think it, along with lots of stretching done by my physical therapist, is helping!

It has been raining a LOT here. We've had 6 inches of rain so far this month! Bunnicula took Pikachu on a walk this afternoon and stepped inside just as the rain began to fall!

We saw "Jingle All The Way" (Arnold Schwarzenegger) this evening--cute movie! And later on: dancing with the Caterpillar to Morrissey singing "Moon River" was a peak experience!

Friday, June 19, 1998: Since last I wrote: I finally got the episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" on tape in which she gets turned into a rattie! :-)  That's also the episode in which Cordelia finally makes a brave move and dumps her clique-ish friends for the love of Xander. On the home front: Bunnicula started up a little desktop Tamagotchi (CD-ROM) and is enjoying raising her. Pikachu has been for more walks with Bunnicula  (he walks a LOT more than I do). We've all been getting back into watching one of our very favourite animes, "Kimagure Orange Road". The guys came home with a subtitled version (no *way* are we watching anything dubbed!) of the second movie, but we didn't watch it yet. And today I let Samuel be awake for a while: we listened to music together. We heard all of "The Beech Tree" (Silver Arm); Faye Wong singing some Cocteau Twins songs, Sting's "De Do Do Da", and a Cranberries song; and most of "Heaven or Las Vegas" (The Cocteau Twins).

I forgot to mention about my little Wave UFO alien: at 13 days a spaceship came and hovered at the top of the screen (of the Wave UFO). It asked: "YES?" "NO?" as to if I wanted him to go home with them or not. I said, "NO" :-) It's been 21 days now. This morning it seemed much harder to win at the slot machine game (to get energy for him). I hope this isn't a trend...

Sunday, June 21, 1998: Yesterday my little Wave UFO alien turned into a creature with wings for ears and little stick legs! His message was BLUE SKY.  :-)  But today, due to people microwaving things, he's back to the large triangular-headed alien form.

Wednesday, June 24, 1998: 5:45am (eep!) Pikachu is happy and continues to be a lot of fun. Samuel is still sleeping a LOT, so his age of 50 years is rather artificial. I just haven't had the patience to see him through hours and hours of almost-constant need lately. I will send him home eventually. :-) Yesterday my little Wave UFO alien turned into (again) what is probably my favourite form: the EGG INTO THE BOWL form. :-) He bounces up and down and waves his cute little stick-figure arms around when he's happy.  I've been keeping him out of range of the microwave since he changed again. I like him this way.

In case you have gotten a Pocket Pikachu and don't read Japanese and don't know what to do, I have done a page of Directions (How-To's and Hints) that includes a diagram of the different buttons and icons. It's not a direct translation, but it pretty much tells you what you need to know. Where I don't know something, I say so.

7pm: It's now 26 days (twice 13) since I first started up my little Wave UFO alien. The mothership came to see if I wanted to send the little alien back with them or not. I chose NO again. :-) But maybe next time I should let him go? He might be getting homesick...

Tuesday, June 30, 1998: Here I am, Finally the Mouse! ::grin::  Bunnicula's Desktop Tamagotchi, Kikko, became a kutchipatchi. She was a little heavy and perhaps not as bright as a mametchi or a mimitchi, but she was very sweet and easy-going. She stayed with him for 14 years. I have been sorely tempted to start raising another Desktop Tam myself--they are sooooo cute!

Three Men in a BoatMy little Wave UFO alien has been getting to hear and see lots of things: parts of "Three Men in a Boat" by Jerome K. Jerome being read aloud to the mouse;
lots of music (Happy Rhodes, Loreena McKennitt, etc.) to counteract the rap music floating up through the floorboards; lots of movies and such on TV and videotape: "Small Town Girl" (Janet Gaynor and Robert Taylor), part of "The Making of 'Gone With The Wind'", a couple episodes of "South Park" (ashamed to admit I watch this), "Invasion  America" (American animated series), most of a Rowan Atkinson special on Comedy Central network, "Bonfire of the Vanities" (Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis), "Never Steal Anything Small" (cute James Cagney movie), "The Hotel New Hampshire" (Jodie Foster, Rob Lowe, etc.). He also read, via the peripheral vision all virtual pets and stuffed animals have, "The Wise Woman" by Philippa Gregory along with me. A lot of negative, scary stuff about witches in there...but the main theme of the book was finding your path and following it with heart, no matter what.

Pikachu is doing well, although I have been having trouble winning the 777 jackpot at *all* the last couple days. Samuel has been hibernating. :-)
