CountryMouse's Diary

Part 19

Saturday, December 4, 1999:  Surprise! I am still around ::grin:: I started up my Santaclautch no Tamagotchi this morning! I got it last year, but really not in time for Christmas. It's the same size and shape as a regular Tamagotchi. Mine is white with a silver frame around the screen, silver Christmas-y designs on the case, and red buttons. Anyway, the point of "raising" a Santaclautch is, as far as I can tell, to help him acquire the various items he needs and have enough food for stamina, etc. for him to be ready for the big night, December 24th! The game in this is to have Santa jump down one of three chimneys, in hopes he will find a good little Tamagotchi asleep in its bed (you see Tams from the P1 and P2 series, plus from the osutchi/mesutchi Tams). Sometimes Santa finds an item also! The trick is to try not to let him jump down a chimney where he finds *nothing* because then he gets kinda angry! (it might even have a negative effect on one of the *many* meters that are part of the complex stats that are in Japanese which I can't read ::grin::) You don't feed Santa directly (except when you first start up the Santaclautch--he eats one rice ball and one piece of cake directly from you at first)--you put food into the larder. When he eats, you hear a little *jing jing jing* (just like "Jingle Bells"). There are no beeps--just light little ethereal jingle bell sounds. Very pleasant. There is a little window you can open each day (once a day) that contains an item for Santa. And there is a little TV you can check to see how the various Tamagotchi are preparing for Santa's visit. Most of the Tams like looking at a wreath or tree; the oyajitchi knocked the tree over last year, if memory serves me right! I think he must've been at the sake again!

What has da mouse been up to since the last diary entry in August? Well, the big1999 Holiday Teddy Beanie Baby announcement from Ty Warner, that all current Beanie Babies will be retired on December 31, 1999 came through at the end of August. So Bunnicula and I kinda got really interested in Beanies again and started hunting and buying. :-)  I did pay a bit more than retail for the '99 Holiday Teddy (pic on the right), but we were able to find both the Ty2K and The End bears at retail! And I got a few Attic Treasures, which I thought I would never like, but ended up finding very adorable. Plus some Ty plush animals too (that's Butterbeary--isn't she sweet?!-- in the picture on the left side of the screen: click Butterbearyon the pic to see her a bit larger). We had to build yet MORE "egg crate" stackable shelving in the bedroom for my fuzzy friends! When we finally get the scanner working again, I hope to put up a section on my beanie and plush people. Anyway, I think I have pretty much all the Beanies I want, so now we just wait and see what Ty has in store for us at the start of the new century!

Then last month I started getting reinterested in yet another of my collections: Hello Kitty and All Things Sanrio. I have been collecting HK and other Sanrio stuff since early 1997, when Cat'r introduced me to these sweet and petite characters. I ordered some things directly from Sanrio in May 1997; and I got a bunch of Sanrio goodies for ChristmasHello Kitty! 1997! Off and on Cat'r has brought me some little Sanrio thing as a present. Then last month we were shopping at a Carlton Cards store. I thought about how I would like to keep a diary again, so I bought myself a Hello Kitty diary and (of course) a Hello Kitty pen to use with it! Soon after I just HAD to have some other goodies, including memo pads, pens, pencil cases, stationery, stickers, chopsticks, noodle soup spoons, and the most elegant thing yet: a black velvet/beaded Hello Kitty (no, not the purse that Tyra Banks carried down the runway!) organizer! I am not allowed to buy anything else for myself now...in fact, I am not even allowed to go to any of the online auction places to even *look*...because CHRISTMAS IS COMING and people are cooking up surprises! :-)

Anyway, I hope you all are having fun celebrating and/or preparing to celebrate your holidays! ::bounce bounce:: I just love this time of year!

Thursday, December 16, 1999: Something weird happened today. When I started up my Santaclautch, it asked for the month and day (well, I am assuming that those were the symbols--best guess). I put in 12 and 4 (I started it on Dec. 4th). You can even keep track of what day it is by checking the little window where you can get one item per day for your Santa. It has the current date. This morning I heard a beepy kind of noise, rather insistent. I went to check and saw Santa in his sleigh, pulled by tiny reindeer, in the sky! I checked the little TV to see what the Tams were up to: a mametchi was looking at/talking to (?) a package tied up with a ribbon that he had received (he *had* been talking to a living, talking tree for the last 2 or 3 days). When I checked the little item window, it was already open and the item gone (never there?). It says 12 (month?) 16 (day?). So I don't know about this possible malfunction. When I set my Santaclautch up last year, I set it so that it would think Jan. 6th was Dec. 25th (I got it too late to use it for the actual Dec. 25th); and it worked perfectly. All I can think is that it needs new batteries. But I would hate to have to restart it at this late date--I am not sure my Santaclautch would be able to acquire all the items and high-stats he needs in time for Dec. 25th. Eep! Anyone else running a Santaclautch? WRITE ME! (my email address is on the Mouse House Tamagotchi Page)

Tuesday, February 1, 2000: Happy New Year a *little* late! A lot of catching up to do (but not today ::grin::). Just wanted to say that today I will have to send my Santaclautch back home. It's a rule/tradition that all Yuletide greens (and therefore all Xmas decorations, etc.) must be down by Candlemas (aka Groundhog Day), or it will bring bad luck upon the household. I still have my Pikachu running, though. This is his second go-round, as you probably remember. I am not keeping a diary this time, though. He's at 642,910 steps, currently.

Friday, March 31, 2000: Well, I decided, on the 28th, to take down my pages. I wanted to do some major work on the site and didn't feel I could do it while it was up on the Web. This includes taking out almost ALL the external links within the Diary; changing directories pictures are kept in (and the changes this necessitates on each and every page); leaving all Web rings (I may rejoin The Rail after I get things back up...maybe one or two others, but the Web ring fragments will need to be on the specific pages they are part of (no more voluminous Web Rings pages!); and rethinking what I actually *want* on the site.

However, a post to the Virtual Pet mailing list, asking if anyone was running any virtual pets right now, made me want to start up a Tamagotchi...and after I *did* hatch one, I missed having my pages up! So I am working on my pages, hoping to get them back up, in a leaner, revised format in a week or so. In the meantime, I want to be able to write in my diary...so you-all will see this *eventually*. ::grin::

SO: On Wednesday, March 29th, I hatched a little P1 (Gen.1) Tam in my Hong Kong Commemorative egg at 6:08pm est. Cat'r was going to be bringing the new Jackie Chan PlayStation game over for us to see, so I named my Tam Jackie. :-)  Let's hope he doesn't try to kick and punch his way out of the case! As it *is*, I had to discipline him THREE times yesterday! I don't remember their being that naughty that young *before* (he's currently a marutchi)...although it's been a *while* since I raised a Tam. :-D

Things are in controlled chaos here this morning. The gal-next-door's air-conditioning/heating unit popped a leak during the night, about 1am, and has been raining down in her front-room closet (she has a bucket in there) and also soaking her living room carpet; and it's been running down by our *circuit breaker box* in our closet and down onto the kitchen counter too. We are using LOTS of paper towels and hoping the repairmen get here pretty soon! Jackie is sleeping through all this at present. :-P
