CountryMouse's Diary

Part 20

Rainbow swirly bar

Saturday, April 1, 2000: Well, the heating/air conditioning people came yesterday and took care of the broken pipe next door that poured water into at least four apartments! We got off pretty lucky, compared to others, just having one closet flooding (which we caught early, moved stuff out of, and kept mopping up) and water constantly running down on a kitchen counter (which I kept sopping up with paper towels). Later in the day the steam-cleaning people came to take care of several apartments' carpeting.

Jackie is still a marutchi, sleeping until 9am. I think he will change today, into his next form, because his discipline is now up to 100%.

9:23am: Jackie must've either transformed during the night (does this happen?!) or else right after waking up, when I was briefly out of the room! He's now a cute little tamatchi with 50% discipline.

10:51pm: I have been trying for a mametchi with Jackie, not letting him have to beep for food or play or anything. But this afternoon, while he and I were listening to the Japanese "Team Rocket Forever" CDsingle, I wasn't paying attention which icon was lit up. I thought I was going to check his stats, but instead I accidentally scolded him! Eep! I hope I am not on the road to getting yet *another* masktchi...!

Tuesday, April 4, 2000: Yes! Jackie turned into a mametchi at 10:16am today! Yay! I was trying for one, being really really careful to anticipate his every need. Very sleepy...talk tomorrow about various things Jackie has been watching, reading, doing, etc.

Wednesday, April 5, 2000: Jackie has been spending a lot of time sitting in the Tamagotchi Easy Chair (that's Wild Thang in the picture), here by the computer, while I surf or chat or work on these pages. He's been reading along with me, via remote viewing (see Aug. 14, 1997 entry), Mendoza in Hollywood by Kage Baker (he wasn't here to read the previous two books in this excellent sorta-time-travel series, In The Garden of Iden and Sky Coyote). And he's been hearing Carpe Jugulum by Terry Pratchett (yet another wonderful DiscWorld novel!) as Cat'r reads that aloud (doing all the voices!). Jackie's been watching TV with us: "Pokemon", "The X Files", the Reds Opening Day baseball game (sound turned off, radio on!--rained-out 3-3 tie ballgame against Minnesota), "Titus", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer",  and "Angel". He's also seen one episode on tape of "Red Dwarf". He's been listening to music of various kinds, Shin Tenchi Muyo CD notably: the soundtrack from "Shin Tenchi Muyo" (I love all the "Tenchi Muyo!" series; but this one was a very pleasant surprise and had a lot more depth to it than I expected! The music is gorgeous!); and "North Country" by The Rankin Family (aka The Rankins) (click on the pictures to see larger pics of the covers of the CDs). This is not the latest/last CD by The Rankins, but it's the one I like the best. They are currently not together as a group, having broken up to pursue individual careers. Then John Morris Rankin was tragically killed in an North Country CDautomobile accident recently. ::sigh:: He was the amazing fiddler/pianist of the group. Oh yeah, Jackie got to watch CM cooking and washing dishes--big thrill!   :-P   Well, I wanted to keep him near me, so that if he needed anything, I could tell right away and take care of things. Also, he was nearing that time when he would transform into an adult, and I didn't want to miss that.

Friday, April 7, 2000: The Mouse House is back up and ready for business! Now you-all get to see what I've been writing about, concerning Jackie and other things. The site is not very much different, visually, from before--just slimmed down and much more organized behind the scenes.

I hope we don't get any scary big storms today...the weather people can be so hyper sometimes. I wonder if I should pause Jackie?...

10:35pm: Raining raining...but so far (*knock on wood*) no scary severe weather. :-)  Jackie has been watching "Cowboy Bebop" with us. It's a rather more shonen anime than we usually watch, but it has gorgeous animation and is very stylishly done.

Sunday, April 9, 2000: Da mouse has been keeping really weird hours lately and didn't get up until 11:30am this morning (Jackie, however, awoke at his usual 9am). Then I didn't remember to *check* on Jackie until 12:43pm--eep! He had a pile of poop by him, he was sick, and his happy and hungry hearts were down to only 1 each! I got him all fixed up, though, and was a lot more careful for the rest of the day. In fact, Jackie got to go *out* today! He got to ride in the car, see lots of beautiful flowers (especially tulips of the most gorgeous shades!), the pale soft feathery green of the trees just starting to leaf out, the blue sky and sunshine, and all. I also held him up so he could watch the road ahead, which is not as disorienting as watching out the side car window ::grin:: He went to a record store with us, and was out several times when I checked on his status and also fed him at one point. Da mouse found *three* Chieftains CDs that she wanted! Then more driving and looking around for Jackie; then going into a large supermarket in search of Ben & Jerry's ice cream! Finally we headed home. I tried to show Jackie LOTS of things, so he would have a lot to talk about when he gets home to Planet Tamagotchi. He capped off the day by watching "The X Files" with us: the episode about Dana Scully's past (episode written and directed by Gillian Anderson).

Tuesday, April 11, 2000:  Argh--today I was really neglectful of Jackie. ::looking ashamed:: It's not like I had a really good excuse either. I left him in the other room while I was on the computer and just lost track of *time* (the first time). All his hearts were empty, plus he had called for me and I hadn't even heard him. I quickly fed him and played games. Then later I was doing some reorganizing of the medicine cabinet, and Jackie was in the other room. You guessed it: his hearts all emptied out, he called for me, and I didn't hear him. And again, when I discovered him, I quickly fed him and played games with him. At least neither time he had to sit in poop. :-)

Well, Cat'r picked up a copy of the Pokemon Trading Card Game for GameBoyPokemon Trading Card Game for GameBoy Color Color for me today; but I just find it way too difficult for a mouse mind. I have no problems with the regular Pokemon games; but for some reason this game (and the actual Pokemon trading card game, for which I have decks) puts me in mind of when I first was trying to learn chess--SO FRUSTRATING! I would *really* rather spend my time playing Pokemon Yellow, building up teams of various levels to take over to Pokemon Stadium, etc. So tomorrow he's going to exchange my copy of the GBColor Pokemon Trading Card Game for the two strategy guidebooks for Pokemon Stadium. Besides, I am looking forward to playing a couple other neat-sounding games: Rhapsody, an RPG coming in May; and The Legend of Mana, also coming in May!

Wednesday, April 12, 2000: ::mousie changes her mind:: I had second thoughts about Cat'r returning my copy of Pokemon Trading Card Game for GameBoy. I decided to give it and myself another try. It's difficult, because there are so many complicated things about it...but it's also rapidly becoming *very* addictive! I hope to get a strategy guide for it tomorrow.

Jackie is starting to lose hearts a little more rapidly than he was...This afternoon he ran out of hungry hearts and had to call me while I was playing the Pokemon TCG for GB--oop! This morning he got to hear lots of different Celtic music: the Rankins, the Chieftains, even some of the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem.

Thin rainbow line

Thursday, April 13, 2000: Jackie mostly watched me playing the Pokemon TCG for GameBoy today. ::grin:: Time flies, etc. He *did* watch "Friends" with us tonight; and last night (I forgot to mention) he watched another episode of "Cowboy Bebop" with us. He's starting to get "middle-age spread" too...due to a combination of his losing hearts a little more rapidly than in his younger years and my not having the patience to play lots of games with him in order to keep his weight in the 30-40oz. range anymore.

Cat'r got me the Official Nintendo Player's Guide for the Pokemon Trading Card Game for Game Boy today. I haven't had a chance to look at it very thoroughly, but it will definitely be helpful. And I *finally* got around to getting my Jungle booster cards out of Pokemon Trading Card Game Players Guidetheir wrappers (!) and sorting and arranging things.  We may even start playing the actual *card* game! I've got 6 different preconstructed decks (4 original and 2 Jungle), plus the 2-player starter deck. And lots of booster cards. We never got around to getting anything beyond the Jungle expansion, though...well, other than a promotional card here and there (one inside a Pokemon Fruit Rolls box, one at "Pokemon: The First Movie", etc.). Tonight I hunted around and found the card game playmats we got free at Toys R Us last November, when we went shopping EARLY in the morning when they had that special Mew promotion on the day after Thanksgiving. I'll never forget how dark and rainy it was, and how odd it felt to go shopping that early: 6:30am! The store parking lot was FULL of cars, and the store was full of people--harried adults and children of varying degrees of sleepiness and excitement! Neither Cat'r nor I got Mew, but we were *near* someone who did. ::grin:: Anyway, anyone with helpful suggestions on deck construction is welcome to email me (my email address is on the Mouse House Tamagotchi Page). ::mousie displays winning smile::

Friday, April 14, 2000: Well, Jackie went home this morning. I didn't really expect it until tomorrow...But last night I let him go to sleep with only 2 hearts full on each meter; and then this morning I was still asleep when he woke up at 9am (I was up LATE, online, then reading, then playing Pokemon TCG for GB). His happy and hungry hearts must've emptied out, he must've called me, and of course I didn't hear him. What I *did* hear (which woke me up finally), at 9:57am, was the steady long beep of his getting ready to leave. My clock radio had been playing music since 9am, but I tend to just ignore it. :-p Anyway, there was music on the radio (I don't remember exactly...maybe "Listen to the Rhythm of the Falling Rain"...?), I had time to make my farewells to Jackie, then he left an egg and became an angel (or left his angel? I am never clear on this). He was 17 years old. I'm glad he got to do lots of things while he was here so that he will have lots to tell about when he gets home to Planet Tamagotchi. Bye-bye, Jackie! I hope you enjoyed your stay here! I miss you!

Saturday, April 15: 2000: I am not sure about how long it takes a Tam to get back to Planet Tamagotchi once he leaves Earth. I suppose it could be instantaneous; or it could take quite some time. Just in case Jackie was still en route, I took his little egg into the living room last night so that he could watch "Iron Chef" (Girls' Festival Battle last night!) with us, for some "in-flight entertainment".

I put up some pieces of The Rail on various parts of my site last night, but they haven't been activated from the Central Station yet. Soon, I hope!

Thin rainbow line

Sunday, April 16, 2000: I have gotten back into Pokemon Trading Cards! I had the four original Base Set theme decks (Brushfire, Overgrowth, Zap!, and Blackout) plus boosters for them; and I had the two Jungle theme decks (Water Blast and Power Reserve), plus boosters for them. Yesterday, in the early afternoon, I ordered the two Fossil theme decks (BodyGuard and LockDown), plus a few Fossil booster packs, directly from Wizards of the Coast, at their online store. Then later, when I tried to go back, their store was unavailable (they were updating it). So I found a nearby hobby shop that had the Base Set 2 decks and got all four of *them* (Grass Chopper, Lightning Bug, Psych Out, and Hot Water), plus a few Base 2 booster packs! Woohoo! The one thing I noticed as I went through the Base Set 2 cards is that they are not as richly coloured as the 1st Edition cards are. They seem "washed out". I noticed this difference especially with my Magikarp cards, but on a lot of others too. Pokemon Zap! theme deck

Anyway, in the Pokemon Trading Card Game for GameBoy, I had been having a *terrible* time trying to win against my rival, Ronald, after winning against the leader of the Fire Club. Finally I looked at the setup of my Zap! deck and made a deck inside the GB game that was almost the same, and *beat* Ronald! Yay! (that's where I am now: I have gotten medals from the Grass Club and the Fire Club so far).

On the VP front: Pikachu is *still* with me! ::grin:: He is very happy with me. When he gets less enthralled with me, I swing him in time to some music and give him lots of watts, and then we are all hunky-dory again. Otherwise, I am trying to decide if I want to raise a Tam2 (P2) or a U.S. Tamagotchi Angel. Before I do, though, I am rereading all that I can online, in order to see about getting a character I haven't gotten before and/or to avoid getting the twin angels again! (if I raise a Tam Angel)

still Sunday, April 16, 2000: I started up a little U.S. Tamagotchi Angel this afternoon! I started him up at 3:17pm, and he evolved into a maruten at 4:27pm. I will try to keep better track of when things happen this time. This is the first U.S. Tam Angel I have raised--last time I raised one it was a Japanese Angelgotchi. You can watch Chazz's progress on the new page I made for the U.S. Tam Angel. I am raising him via the "Tamagotchi autonomy" method, first put forth by Aurora Minui. It's a lot less nerve-fraying than hovering/coddling; and I have finally come to believe that the coddled Tams *do* end up more spoiled and selfish! Anyway, I am trying for any character other than the Twin Angels. ::grin:: Oh yes, Chazz got to watch "Iron Chef" (it's on Food Network, if you get that channel) with us this evening at 7pm--it was the Broccoli Battle! Food Network is now running "Iron Chef" *three* nights a week. (Yay!) It's their second most popular program!

Thin rainbow line

Monday, April 17, 2000: Chazz evolved into a kodoten at 4:27pm, exactly 24 hours after he evolved into a maruten. I have been using the relaxed "Tamagotchi autonomy" parenting method, and so far it's a lot less stressful for me. If Chazz has called me selfishly, I have not been in the room to hear it. He got to visit with the stuffed animals in the bedroom while I watched a special called "Dial H for Hitchcock" on the Encore channel on TV in the living room this afternoon. Fascinating program! Other than that, I have had him with me, but he didn't call, except for a time or two for food and games.

still Monday, April 17th: Around 5pm or so I thought I'd try to see if what Aurora Minui said about turning lights out on the Tam Angels made them sick: it does. I was kind of surprised that turning them out for just a second, then turning them back on makes the Tam Angel sick enough to need 2...love arrows?! (looks like a bow and arrow to *me* for medicine). So, um, to be sure, I tried once again, and of course Chazz got sick again, so I healed him again. As to why he went to sleep with almost all his hearts empty: several sites say that the kodoten goes to sleep at 9pm, so I was waiting until Chazz beeped at me for food and playing. But before he could do that, he went to sleep! At 8pm! Oh well!

Thin rainbow line

Tuesday, April 18, 2000: Woohoo! At exactly 4:27pm Chazz evolved into ::drumroll!:: a ginjiro-tenshi! Yayayayay! I have only gotten any form of ginjirotchi twice ever before: in my U.S. GameBoy Tamagotchi game (Cedric, who is currently in statis)  and in my Yasashii Tamagotchi (Cozy Feathercushion) [note made March 5, 2002: hmm. Does this mean that only Tamagotchi whose names begin with "C" can become a ginjirotchi??]. Chazz looks so happy and cheerful! I hope he'll be around for a while. And now that he's an adult, maybe he will make that little sound that will let me know he's praying, so that I can praise him.   Oh, oh, something weird I just remembered: when I was starting up Chazz, the name "Cedric" kept coming into my mind; but I said, "You can't be Cedric: I already *have* a Cedric." The Cedric I *have* is a ginjirotchi--is that coincidental or what? It can't be reincarnation because Cedric is still alive, just not active. :-p  Hmm...!

Thursday, April 20, 2000: More woohoo-ing!! Da mouse got to talk on the phone withDotComGuy logo DotComGuy this evening!! Chazz was right here with me, so he got to hear my side of the conversation (I had to logoff in order to phone since my data line is our voice line, so I couldn't have the videofeed up at the same time as I was talking to DCG ::pout::). DCG's a really nice, down-to-earth guy, very easy to talk to, doing a LOT of good for e-commerce and the Internet in general--a very positive influence! And you can watch him live, 24 hours a day!  There are a lot of his fans that hang out on the #dotcomguy channel on DALnet (IRC)--a really fun group of people.

Chazz has been watching TV with us; reading along with me in a book called Juniper, Gentian, and Rosemary by Pamela Dean (neat book!); and sitting in the lap of luxury, erm, I mean the lap of Lime (a lovely soft lime-green teddy bear, named after my favourite Saber Marionette), here by my computer, while I have been online (surfing, reading and writing email, chatting, reading news, etc.!). Also, Chazz's Deeds meter has been going up! Two mornings in a row I have found him praying, so I was able to praise him! :-)  So far I find having him around very easy. I don't know how it will be as he gets older and will require more care...but I am definitely enjoying his stay here at present.

Thin rainbow line

Saturday, April 22, 2000: Chazz is spinning and twirling right along! He reached 100% on his Deeds meter yesterday! Yay! He got to go shopping yesterday...well, sorta. Cat'r and I went to a record store, then my favourite bookstore/cafe. But it was a (beautiful!) grey, rainy, chilly day, so I had Chazz in a little suedecloth pouch in my purse. And I ended up not buying anything (surprise!)--well, I didn't find the specific CD I was looking for. Anyway, I forgot to ever get Chazz out of my purse while we were out of the house! Oh well!

I'd better give Pikachu some steps today--he's not very happy with me (not at the SHOCK! level yet, though). I have sorta forgotten about him in the last few days. ::looking ashamed::

Thin rainbow line

Sunday, April 23, 2000: Chazz left this morning at 11:01am...Well, let me back up and talk about things chronologically.

Yesterday morning I was online early, doing various things. Then I went to have breakfast; and when I got back to my computer, it was DEAD. I turned everything off, tried booting again: nothing. So I turned it all off and went back to bed for a while (I had been up late the night before). Cat'r came over after a while and pronounced that the power supply (in the computer) "[was] toast". So he took it out, went out to buy another one, then put the new one in. It sounds easy; but there were wires everywhere and things in there in very twisty, tight positions. But it's working again! Yay! And no data was lost or anything! Heh. The first thing I did once all was up and running again was go shopping online. :-p  Then after that Chazz and all of us watched last week's and this week's "Pokemon" episodes on tape, then some stuff I had taped late at night about Hong Kong, which included some footage of both Jackie Chan *and* Chow Yun-Fat! (woohoo!)

Today: I didn't get up early, like I had planned--got to bed late *again*, so I slept until 10am. Chazz called me; but I thought, "Oh, I'll get to him in a few minutes" and put his egg on the nightstand. When I checked him at 11:01am, he was looking sad and waving at me. I pushed a button (only one would work), there was a long-shot of a tiny point of light ascending into the heavens, then it went to the final screen of an entire SKY full of twinkling points of light and stars. Bye-bye, Chazz! You have taken your place among the other angels and all the stars! I sure do miss you...you didn't stay long. Oh well, I guess you were eager to get to your Celestial Virtual Home! Happy Easter!

Easter basketsSpeaking of Easter, look what the Lavender Lagamorph League left us! Well, actually this picture is from a couple years ago; but they left baskets *very similar to these* this morning! Click on the picture to see it larger.

Thoughts on Tam raising styles and results: I am not sure how I feel about the autonomous parenting style. It's definitely easier on the *parent/guardian*, and helps get you different Tam forms you wouldn't get via the "coddling" method. However, perhaps I should've been more coddling with Chazz once he reached his adult form, so that he would've stayed around longer. ::sniffle:: 'Tis a puzzlement: if you coddle them, the Tams stay at home with you forEVER; but they are so spoiled and selfish, you wish they would just LEAVE! If you give them autonomy, they are much easier to raise, are easier to be around, but tend to leave you a lot sooner. ::sigh::

still Sunday, April 23d: I missed having a little Tam around, what with Chazz leaving a lot sooner than I thought he would. So I started up a little Japanese Tam2 this afternoon, named Esther. To a large degree, I hope to use Aurora Minui's "Tamagotchi autonomy" method of parenting with Esther...at least until she reaches adulthood. I hope to get some Tam character other than a mimitchi or zukitchi. :-p

Thin rainbow line

Tuesday, April 25, 2000: Esther turned into a cute little tongaritchi at 5:28pm today. I missed one of the times to discipline her when she was a tonmarutchi, so I have a sinking feeling she may become a zukitchi, the Tam2 equivalent of the masktchi (I get this form--masktchi/zukitchi--very very often). Oh well, we'll just see.

Thin rainbow line

Wednesday, April 26, 2000: I paused Esther from 12noon today until 6pm, because I was having company over and knew I wouldn't be paying good enough attention to catch any "selfish" calls she might make. Da mouse went out to a park and took photos of flowers this afternoon--lovely weather for it! Hope they come out good. I am thinking about putting up some pages of seasonal photographs I've taken. Building the Colossus CD

Music Esther has been listening to in the last couple days, along with me: "Santiago" by The Chieftains and "Building the Colossus" by Happy Rhodes. Click the picture at right to see the cover of the CD larger.

Thin rainbow line

Friday, April 28, 2000: Esther is still a tongaritchi, probably because I paused her those 6 hours. But she got sick-for-no-reason early this afternoon, so it won't be too very The Ruby in the Smokelong before she transforms into her adult form. What she's been doing: spending a LOT of time with me on the #dotcomguy channel on IRC. Also she watched "Friends" with us last night; she helped me make the grocery list; and she's been reading The Ruby in the Smoke (pictured at left--click on the picture to see it larger) and now The Shadow in the North, both by Philip Pullman, author of the His Dark Materials series (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and (coming out in October) The Amber Spyglass), which is a series for everyone waiting for the next Harry Potter book, although I would say it's a bit more complicated and more for a teen-and-higher audience than the Harry Potter series (which I *love* and have all of in hardback!).

Thin rainbow line

Saturday, April 29, 2000: Esther turned into a hashizotchi at 12:31pm today! Yay!Hashizotchi This is a form of adult Tam I have never gotten before! She is soooo cute, especially when she's playing the guess-the-number game. I thought she was going to remain a perpetual teenager, but she changed into a loveably cute adult, finally.

still Saturday, the 29th: Esther, along with Teddy (my Mr. Bean teddy bear) and the rest of us in the house, watched Alfred Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train" (VERY tense movie! really good!). Then we all watched this morning's new Pokemon episode I had taped. Then Teddy went to talk about the movie to other people in the bedroom, while the rest of us watched last night's "Iron Chef" episode: Lobster Battle! Very exciting battle! (da mouse will not reveal who wins in these, as one never knows who might be reading this and if their country is just starting to air the episodes).

Thin rainbow line

Sunday, April 30, 2000: I hope I am not doing the wrong thing by coddling Esther more--I just want her to stay as long as she can. A little while ago, at 7pm, I found her sick; and I know I have given her very few snacks. ::sigh:: I wanted her to stay at least until she is in her teens...
